2000 ranger flex - rear suspension life expectency
I have an '00 ranger and just in the last day or so the rear suspension, I'm assumming, started to squeek. The truck has about 65,000 miles on it. How long do the stock shocks last? Are there grease fittings for the leaf bushings? What else might I check? Could the u-joint be going out? The squeeking is more noticeable during in town driving and not as noticeable on the interstate. What items are more prone or common to go out? Thanks

Does not squeak differently when on or off the gas, or braking. Have not used the e-brake. Also have not been mudding.

well they used to say back in the day when all the cars came only from detriot that the stock shock were bad by the time ther got here from the train ride.... but since its not like that nemore id say your shocks are long gone (not sayin thats the problem) just answering your question. thats the bad things with shocks is that they wear out soo slow you dont notice that there bad till you put new ones on and your like holy cow poo....

The squeak does not speed up in relation to speed. But more noticeable as you go over bumps and cracks in the road. 04 xlt that is my thinking too, but just want to check out all possiblities. It is a spongy squeaky sound. I just didn't want there to be something going on with the 4 wheel drive or related parts.

I should have said in my last post that I only had changed to rear shocks. I have been spraying the rear leaf and shackle bushings with PB Blaster. I did find out that when I stood on the side nerf bars not so much squeak on the drivers side. But the passenger front side I think is the culprit. Squeeeeeeaaaaaaaakkkkkkkk! I'll change the fronts out in a few days. The rear bushings what you can see of them are a little cracky.

CORRECT! it's the leaf springs. This has happened to me multiple times on both my Rangers and on both sets of leaf springs. The problem is the bushings between the individual leafs. Just spray those down with some lube an it will go away. If you really want get crazy jack up the rear of your truck to stretch out the suspension and spray them really good.
