Need info on steering rack 2001 Ranger Edge
I'm using a 2001 ranger chassis for my hot rod p/u and prefer to run a manual steering. This will not be a daily driver, and will not see many miles at all. Its got a power rack in place now (with no pump on the 350 Chevy motor); I've simply connected the fluid lines. Its nearly ready to drive, but someone told me that the power rack may not act right since there w/b air in those lines....like it may dart/wander.
Here is what I'd like to ask:
1 Will this unassisted power rack be difficult to steer/park vs a MANUAL RACK and should I be concerned about it wandering/darting possibly because of air in the lines and if so, how could I get the air out?
2 If I need to go to a manual rack, WHAT YEARS of manual rack will work on the 2001 Ranger (MAZDA?)
THANKS! George

OPPS.........maybe FORD didnt offer manual steering in 01
At least thats what I have been seeing- only power racks like I have. I seem to remember them offering manual steering on the older versions. So, looks ilke I will need to install a pump on my SBC or figure out HOW to use the power rack I now have without assist. Any and all ideas of how to safely connect that RACK w/b appreciated. Not sure how to get air out of the lines since they are just connected to each other..........maybe a bleeder of some type? HELP!!!!!!!
