04 FX4 SUSPENSION

I've been looking around, and I cant find anyhting but the RCD 5.5" Lift and the Superlift kit. Im currently deployed right now, so I should have the money to finally pay for a suspension lift. I want to do 4" suspension and 3" bl, but the only thing I can find is the damn Superlift kit. My questions are, is there any other company that offers suspension lifts for the '04? And if there isn't and I have to go with the superlift, what other components (besides front drive shaft) would I need to make this a respectable lift? I want to fit 35's under it for a more agressive stance. Keep in mind with any feedback, I should also mention this is a daily driver, and I sometimes drive it to Texas and back on the holidays. Thanks!

Also, Im based out of Ft. Stewart, Ga, does anyone know of any off road auto shops or at least parts stores in the area besides autozone and other major corporations, I prefer smaller mom and pop shops but anything besides autozone would work!

RCD discountinued their lift for our trucks. If I were to do a Superlift on my truck tomorrow I'd make an order for the coilover conversion. Other than that the Superlift is a great kit.

There is nothing wrong with the superlift kit. You will need a new driveshaft with any suspension lift you get. I had a 2000 Ranger, and had a the superlift kit a 3" body lift and 35's. It was open diffs and i didnt get stuck once. The only thing that is 'wrong' with the SL kit is it uses the TBARS instead of getting rid of them for coilovers, which you can fix if you want to spend the extra dough.

The RCD kit has been discontinued for a while. SO good luck on that.

ALso on it being a DD, i will warn you. get ready to start replacing parts. The Ranger is not build to have 35s on the front IFS D35. The most common things that go bad quick are wheel bearings, cv shafts and u joints. And dont expect to get much more than 12mpg once you lift it and put 35's under it.

And what are your plans for gears? I would go with 4.56 but thats just me. thats what i had and it was a perfect mix of highway driveablility and offroad torque.

I've had teh super lift kit on my 04 FX4 for 6 years now. The kit has been awsome with no real issues from the kit itself.
Over all issues I was initally having was the rear shocks supplied seemed to be way to soft for the vehicle and I opted to keep the stock FX4 shocks on which have worked quite well.
I did keep the stock front driveshaft on the vehicle but that got burned up after about 10K miles so I ended up installing the SL heavy duty version.

Issues I'm having now with the vehicle are the torson arms which are doing poorly. I figure they need replacing since the vehicle was cranked up.

From extensive reading I've performed I haven't been able to find and torson arms stronger teh the ford "b" series units. I've also been looking into a set of rear bilstein 5100 shocks. But not sure if anyone has used those on our vehicles.

WHo makes coil overs for the 04 rangers?

I think there's half a dozen Coil-over'd Superlifted trucks here. I can't name them all but Shadow905, 08xlt4x4, RangerNVS are a few rockin' c-o'd Superlifts. My torsion bars are sagging and front shocks are about toast....you better believe I am NOT replacing any of those. I'm going coil-over.

I've got 5100 rear shocks on my truck and the stock superlifts up front. Installation of the 5100's really helped the ride out. Those superlifts sucked being in the rear. I don't have any part numbers for the shock I used, but it's the same spec shock that's included in the discontinued RCD kit.

As mentioned, the RCD suspension lift kit has been discontinued. So your only option is to try to find one used. Nevertheless, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Superlift suspension lift kit. Although there is always room for improvement, which is why I recommend you take it a step further and go with a front coil-over conversion and rear Skyjacker or Deaver lift leaf springs. Also, a gear change is also in order since you will want/need bigger tires. I wouldn't go any bigger than 33's on the IFS front end due to wear and stress issues. With 33's and the mods listed on my "about me" page I am getting 16 to 17 MPG in the city.

I recommend the 4" Superlift ($1600) plus the Coil-Over conversion kit from ORW ($650+shipping) just like everyone else said. It's the cheapest way to get an amazing suspension system for a Ranger.
