To clear 35's nicely on your 2wd torsion bar truck, you'll need 3" spindles and a 3" bodylift. That's if you're not going crazy cool stuff like a Camberg 6.0 kit. Then obviously something for the rear....shackles and an AAL would level the truck out for ya to get you 3" rear lift.
Gearing.....4.88 for either engine IMO.
Yes...DEFINATELY worth waiting it out to find a 4.0. Those 3.0's have just a tiny bit more power and torque over the 4 banger. And you could broaden your year range.....01-05 2wd Edge and 06+ 2wd Sports are the same truck....2wd torsion bar. '09+ 4cyl Sports have coil spring suspension.
Weezl...instead of posting blahblah maybe's and should's, dude...just don't post if you don't know. And for your doubts of 2wd's, one name: N3elz.

3" bl plus 3" spindles, = 6" front, 3" bl plus shackles is roughly 5 rear, which would level it out... so that is damn near exactly what the op posted for heights... so what is your issue with my post?
as for "doubts of 2wd's", if 2wd was as good as 4wd, they wouldn't make 4wd... not saying that you CAN'T wheel 2wd, but that is not what they were designed for...

i'm not really a fan of body lifts... is there any way to get the 6 inches without the body lift? i wont be wheeling through anything crazy, so 4WD isnt necessary, especially for the extra cost of lifting a 4WD and the extra cost getting the truck in general. the truck will be used on deactivated logging roads with cross ditched sections thats about it.

BUT....IF you can find a 4" Trailmaster lift kit, you can bolt that on AND the lift spindles for 7" front lift. BUT...the kit has been out of production for a few years and it uses ball joint spacers which I think is a little sketchy. Those BJ spacers are what allows those lift spindles to work in conjunction with the drop bracket lift kit.

Yeah Derek, bodylifted Rangers show about as much frame as STOCK toyotas and s10/colorados!! They don't look bad at all.
We've got a few guys here running that setup you're after(3" spindle, 3" body, 35's). Take a peek through the snapshots section of the site. There's even a few just running a spindle lift and 35's, but I think it's just too stuffed for these trucks. And when you start getting into that tire size, you really need to start considering a gear swap.

By the way....there's a TON of members in that general area of Vancouver. Every couple of months they have a camp-out at Stave Lake.

It's fairly easy to do, I did it when I bought my race quad. It wouldn't be worth it though, they are pretty much the same price as up here when you do all the work needed to get it across. Good to know about the camp out. I'm about 20 minutes from Stave Lake. But about the lift again... Fabtech lift spindles seem like they way to go? What bodylift do you recommend? and will I have to relocate the bumpers myself or does the body kit include all that stuff?

Cool...you're Stave's neighbor(err....neighbour. LOL!). haha. Anywho...Fabtech seems to be the ones people go with. Just make sure to repack the bearings @ every oil change with the bigger tires and don't jump it because now you've got a lifted 2wd doesn't mean you're a prerunner in cali. LOL. People who jump with those spindles(or any of the major lift spindles) tend to break their spindle snout.
I don't have much experience with the spindles, the best bet is to wait it out for folks to respond here or search the board for experiences with spindle lifts.
Bodylift...I suggest the PA (performance accessories) kit that runs about $200-220 US. And yes, everything is included...but manual trans requires the shift extention(sold seperately).
Here's a BCer member, stevev88's truck. 3" Spindle and 2" AAL and 33x12.50's. I sorta feel this is a better setup than huge. I sometimes hate mine being that big...yet sometimes love it. lol. Believe he had all his stuff done at North Shore Off Road in the Couve?? Here's a few links too...

Oh I will not be jumpin any trucks hahah. The truck will take the quad to the track where I can jump it lol. Hmmm now you got me thinking... That truck is very clean looking. Would probably drive much nicer on the highway as well. I think I will probably stick with the 35's though. Can't be changing my mind every two seconds. If I can get done what I have in my mind, I think it will be a pretty sick looking truck.

No problemo dude. I went from 1" bodylift and 32's, to 4-5" suspension lift, 3" body, and 35's in less than 2 weeks. Only thing holding me back from one full day of liftege was my work schedule. haha.
Also....When choosing a truck, take a print out of this page with you: Ford Ranger Axles - The Ranger Station
You'll want to find a 4.10 ratio truck. This will let you get by with 35's until you do your gear swap to 4.88's. Something to also be aware of is that 2wd Sport/Edges came with 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10 ratios. If the gear swap isn't immediate or soon after the 35's are put on, you risk premature tranny failure with definately the 3.55's and mostly with the 3.73's. Plus...it just won't be all too driveable with those two ratios in it and 35's anyway. lol.

good luck with your lift, imo, body lifted rangers look sick, i was anti BL when i joined here too, just because you don't get the suspension advantage, the frame sticks out like a sore thumb, your frame to ground clearance is still the same... but the people on this site convinced me that you don't really get a suspension advantage on suspension lift either, because of the ifs and t-bars, the frames, stock, are tucked away completely, so a little frame showing after the lift isn't bad, and there is things you are going to get hung up on well before the frame on these trucks...

I was also researching the coilover conversion for later on... seems like if i want 35s on there I will have to do a 1" torsion bar crank. This makes it a stiffer ride up front correct? If I do the coilover conversion I can get that extra 1" lift as well, but will it really be worth like 600 bucks? Is the ride quality going to be way better on gravel roads though all the potholes and washboard sections?
