wheel bearings.... again...

i dont get it, on the way home this mornin i hear the famous click.. the one that makes my stomach cringe, i think it could be my bearings, gone again, only replaced a month and a half ago, how come i tear through bearings to fast? does it not being aligned not help, i was told having such a deep offset with larger then stock tires is the main cause, what can i do to save my bearings, i HAVE to drive to work this morning, praying to god i make it there, to check the bearings thanks for all the help

what kind of bearings did you put on it? did you cheap out with the china bearins or did you get the good timken or ford/ mazda ones? its makes a big difference. they should def last longer than that

also when u do em, the toque on the bearing nuts have to be perfect...too loose and they will wobble and wear out with the quickness, too tight they bind and so on

thats only with the bearing/ race style bearings. his being a 2001 4x4 it has unit hub assemblies. but it is important to NOT use an impact to tighten the axle nut, it will damage the hub assembly. torque it down to the correct torque spec. (trust me, i learned the hard way)

I've seen your pics in the past....with your horrible camber angle, it's putting even more strain on them. Get that alignment fixed.....put in quality Timkin/Timken(don't remember the spelling) brand bearings in it instead of cheap crap chinese bearings that you may be using, properly pack them, and properly torque those nuts down in the correct sequence. I believe it's along the lines of torque to 20ft pounds to seat them, back off 1/4 turn, then 25 inch pounds and then your cotter pin.

L/M01,

What wheels are you running, what is the back spacing, how wide, etc ?

Is the truck 2 or 4 wd, lifted, etc ?

If lifted, did you get an alignment after the lift ?

Is that angle you've got the result of a 4" torsion crank?

shane, that isnt a proven measurement, but please tell me out of the other ranger who is maxxed out, and still squatting in the front, that my front end is higher then his?? the truck needed ball joints and tierods for that pic, as of now, since the toe is done, they are identical, but now i need to finish this algnment and finish buying two new tires to match the front new tires..... also in that pic, the pass. side tire had major wear on the inside, and so it leaned out like that too, my new tires somewhat straightened it out

im interested to know what u found out is wrong with your passenger side camber...mine is the same way, when i put the spacers on and got it alligned i was all good. then it gradually started leaning in at the top, change upper and lower BJ's, TRE's, only thing i havent changed is the wheel bearings. the allignment shop told me they couldnt fix it, even with adjustable camber bolts

Welcome to my life, most of the reason I hatted my ranger. I was replacign them every 6 months, but I guarantee your problem is alignment/parts.

I had 35s with 10" wide rims on mine and they lasted 6 months, and I was pretty rough on it.

i got the torsions cranked all the way, messed up alignment, and had some worn out, cross worn mt's, bought new bfg all terrians just for the front, which has extended life of bearings, and ball joints, but i need to finish the alignment soon, also my brakes get eating up like crazy, i have a body lift, actualy its less then 5 ft away from me, just dont know how to put it in, and afraid to try, tried to sell it but no bueno....
