Rear Shock Length - 4-5” Lift’d ‘03
I didn’t search so hit me with your best shot…
I need to know what the rear shock working lengths are for a four inch lifted ’03 Ranger ?
I am having rear spring oscillations and need to replace the shocks to eliminate it.
it has been suggested to use the Rancho RS9000XL Series, adjustable Shock and that sounds good but I need to know the actual working lengths, compressed and extended.
I contacted Rancho and they said the 9000 “L1” mounts will work with an extra metal bushing in the lower mount, which it does not come with and the length.. they indicate to me that it is OEM length for their 999028 shock is 16” Compressed and 28” Extended.
Seems long to me but Rancho said they referenced it from their 5000 series shocks.
What about the 4-5” lift, will that require a longer shock ?
I need to know this before ordering the shocks.

The Bilsteins that came with RCD kits are BE5-A092-T5 shocks. Extended=29.75, Collapsed=18.
They were ok with my setup, 6" skyjackers, no block, RCD shackle, and factory axle shock mounts. But were a little short and would pick up a tire easy.

On my new axle the shock mounts are clocked up and I think they fit just about right now. Gives me a couple more inches droop and doesn't bottom out too bad.
With that setup it rides good as far as I'm concerned. But does ride a little smoother with some weight in the back. I hauled about 600lbs of concrete the other week and it really took the "bounce" out of the back end.

What I did was just measured my shock while installed on the truck, from eyelet to eyelet. Then took the compressed/extended lengths for the shocks I saw, added them together, and divided by two. That gives me how long the shock is going to be when it is mid-way through it's travel. I found the shock that when it is mid-way through its travel was the closest to how long mine are on my truck right now.

I will have to wait for Korey to get his and see what goes down.
Summit suggests my problem to be from the mixed products, maybe but I would think there is a fix.
I think I will call Skyjacker tomorrow and see if they have a solution.
