Suspension lift help...
I know suspension lifts are sold engine and drivetrain specific, and I have a 2.5L 2wd Ranger. Now, since I can't find one for my engine theoretically could I order a 3.0 lift and put it on? Would the front shocks just be really stiff because its not for my truck. I've found quite a few 2wd lifts. Like from Fabtech and what not...
Would this work or is this just the most retarded question ever?

To my knowladge with rangers non of the kits are really engine or drivetrain specific. There are two different kinds of two wheel drive front suspensions, the coil ones and the ones with torsen bars. Check this out though theres some different lift kits here.

Engine does matter... Why? Because the spring rates are different on the coils. So to keep the same ride height a heavier engine will have a stiffer coil than a lighter engine would. Basically all im sayin is that your ride may suffer a bit more but it might have a bit more lift.
But...on a SLA truck, more lift isn't necessarily better because downtravel will decrease. The upper arms will max out quicker.
This is based on experience, but don't let this stray you away. If you find a good deal, jump on it.

99fordranger: That is the site where I figured out there are 2wd ones out. I'm registered with the same name over there.lol. I'm coil sprung. I kinda figured what you said, but I had to ask to be sure.
demiseranger: Yeah, I understand the spring rates are different..but like I asked, would the springs just be stiffer. Which you went on to answer what I wanted answered. Ride quality is only but so important in just a winter driver. I've got a motorcyle that I drive pretty much from the first hott day of the year till it starts getting cold. This is just to make my winter ride look sweet. Mall-crawler for sure.lol.
