grinding badly when turning wheels sharply to the left

When I turn my wheel sharply to the left, I can hear it grinding or banging loudly under the left front end, for lack of a better term. any ideas of what this could possibly be??

Is it like a loud clicking? Almost a banging. I know the two vehicles are completely different, but I had a Camry once that did that when I turned sharply, it was the cv shafts, the boots were torn, crap all up in em.
