I am new to this site, just signed up today. I have a '03 ext. cab EDGE stepside. I just bought it two months ago, and have plans to lift it. I order the fabtech 3" spindle lift and the 3" body lift. I have never installed a lift before, so I dont know too much about them, but I think I can figure out how to do the install. I have a n impact wrench, floor jacks, jack stands, and a fork lift if worst comes to worst, I even have a shop that I can work on teh truck in. But my problem is, I dont know anything about ring and pinions, I keep hearing about it but I dont know what it is, or if I need you. Can somebody help me by tell me what they are and if I need to get it. I am planning on running 35x12.5" tires, with the lift, and I am not sure if I can use the original rims our not, does anybody know if teh original rims will still work with the lift and tires? Thanks.....

 

yes you should because of the bigger tires, that's if you still want power. the big tires will eat it up if you don't.

 

Ring and Pinion = your rear end gear ratio..

I dont know what you have now, but with 32's and a lift. a 4.10 gear ratio"ring and pinion" is recommended..

You can fit a 33" tire there if you have the right backspacing.

I say, if you can, go with the pro-comp spindles...

And um oh yea, the 4.10's is recommended because of it spins faster with less.... Or takes less to spin in other words...

Also, don't forget to look into pinion shims. They are flat, angled pieces of steel or aluminum that are placed between the axle tube and the leaf pack, to re-align the pinion angle and eliminate any vibrations that may occur.

You may not need them, the only way to tell is to drive the truck afterwards and determine if you have any vibrations.

 

What engine does your truck have? You'll want to get 4.56 gears to run 35x12.50s if you have a 6 cylinder. But I guess you do, since your truck is an extended cab.
