Tranny issues after body lift
Hi I am new to this fourm. I just finnished putting a 3 inch body lift on my ranger today that I have spent nearly 30 hours on over the last week. I am having some issues with my transmission after I put the lift on. Also the check engine light is on. I did disconnect the shift cable from firewall before I lifted the cab but it is still fairly tight.
When I put the truck into reverse there is a big jolt and a clunk and when I am driving and changing gears it shifts really hard and sometimes the rpms jump up before it shifts. I have only 80,000 miles and never have had any problems with my transmission before. I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum
I assume an automatic, from reference to shift cable, and "hard shifts"
What engine and what year?
Your transmission is in "limp" mode, probably because of the CEL(check engine light) code, so get that code, auto parts store will read it for free if it is a 1996 or newer Ranger.
Probably a P07xx code, a transmission code
Depending on year you should have a multi-wire connector on the transmission just in front of shift linkage, unplug it and plug it back in, it may be loose and that would cause "limp mode".
On the shift linkage there is a range sensor(depending on year) if cable is too tight range sensor could be sending wrong "gear" selection to computer.
Could be a blown fuse, again engine and year would be needed to help with that
Limp mode is from "limp home", lol, when computer can't "talk" with transmission or speedometer should fail, it doesn't know when to shift gears and what gear to use, so it uses "safe" shifts which are harsh and with no torque converter lockups it slips
You don't mention no speedometer but that would cause limp mode as well and a code
