I am a newbie and I will admit flat out. I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 4x4 off road package. I am looking at some tires and rims. I would like to keep it under 1,000 if possible. I went to a look tire shop and he had a tire that he said was an off brand interco tsl that he said does very well and wears nicely as it is a radial. My truck has 16inch rims on it now. I like the moto metal rims I have seen. I wonder what everyone thinks. What is a good tire and rim combo for this truck also what size tire should I run if I do not plan to lift it and still want decent mileage. I never bought a set of new tires before so just looking for advice. I want a truck that will do well in the snow. The truck is not driven much in the warmer months as my convertible is driven then. Sorry if this seems like a basic questions just looking for friendly advice.

 

it depends what kind of look your going for...if you dont do much off-road driving bfg all-terrains are the best and they do good in snow.
many guys have them on this site and love them.
tsl look sick, but wow a 3.0 trying to haul those big old mud lugs is tuff!
I have the 3.0 and it struggles with bigger tires, especially in 4X4....but its totally up to you!

oh also...if you want to get the max tire size im pretty sure a 31 will be limit unless you adjust/ crank your torsion bars.

You might be able to squeeze a 32X10.5...maybe, not sure, but once again...if no one else chimes in "search"!

 

I dont know if it makes a difference but the truck has 4.10s in it. I was thinking maybe 30x10.5 but have looked online and can find a lot of 15s in that size but no 16s.

 

I have heard good things Trxus MTs anyone for opinions? Also since I plan to get new rims as well would be it better to drop down to a 15 inch rim instead of a 16. It seems 16s are really expensive. If I were to go with a trxus mt in 30x10.5 if possible for a 16 inch rim where would be the best place to buy it. Any cheap places?

I have also been looking at dunlop mud rovers or Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac in 265/75/16. What size are these as far as 30 or 31. I thought I heard that 235s equal a 29. Any opinions on these. Will a 265/75/16 fit well on the ranger without the torrsion bars being raised?

 

you'll fit 32 11.50 on stock wheels. i wouldnt do it on offset or wider wheels though unless you crank the t-bars. oh and some good advice is stay away from interco for your daily driver. unless you want a rough ride, the tires are mainly for offroad so they do not last on the roads.

 

265/75r16 is equal to a 31.6" high by 10.4" wide

265/25.4=10.4" of width. divide by 25.4 to convert millameters to inches. first number is width of tire ie. 265

265x.75=198.75/25.4=7.82" of sidewall times 2 since top and bottom side wall then add wheel
15.6" +16= 31.6 for ur total height

 

mud rovers are a great tire but they are a little sketchy on wet pavement but i love mine in the mud and snow i have 31x1050x15.


I would go down to a 15 inch wheel just to save on tires but you have to find the wheels you want

 

you arent going to get moto metals and swampers for under a grand. i priced out some cooper discoverer st and they were 130 bucks a tire. i went and got them priced out at a shop, 783.53 for four tires, mounted and balanced. you pretty much have to either go with the cheapest of cheap or get used to stay under one thousand. nobody please quote me on this. oh and if you get new wheels get 15", tires are cheaper and have a larger variety. cooper's are great long lasting tires too

 

I like the look of the soft eight cragar and the mud rover from dunlop 265/75/r16. Will this set up work on my ranger? The rim I found is below.

i dont understand why your getting a 16 inch wheel if your getting new wheels it will be cheaper to get 15s and you will save on tires and you can get a 32x1050 tire

 

yeah, dont get 16", 15 will work better, save you money, and look 100 times better. there are so many more tire options with 15". research a little more before you just jump to it. and IMO i hate soft 8's in 16".

You can fit 32's, 265's if with a 16, stock.
5 x 4.5 Bolt pattern. Stock wheels are 7" wide with 4.5" backspace, I would try to find wheels with less backspacing than stock. I would stick to 15's with the Cragars, the 16's have to much backspacing.

You don't lose many options with off road tires unless you go 18+. Plenty of choices, tires just get pricier. I personally like bigger wheels, its all a matter of taste.

 

thats why i said save you money, and when you are looking for used tires, its more common to find 15" than 16. just my .02 cents
