18"s and 255/55/18s your opinion?

Im looking at some Black SVT mustang Rims that are 18s seen here and some BFG KDW IIs and was wondering on your guy's opinions on them? Im really having a hard time with my rear tires loosing traction and I also want to improve upon looks. I was orginally looking at 17"s but they only offer 255/55/17s in Goodyear tires, and they only offer a few brands in 255/60/17... My 2wd is stock height and I might drop it depending on wheel gap etc. Im building my truck for more performance then anything and after reading up on the KDW 2s and hearing D.'s opinion they sound like what I want, and what I want is a tire that sticks! I havent seen to many people on here with 18's and Im not into the big bling bling of 20's or anything either. Any opinions welcome.. Thanks!

On my 2000 I had the 18" version of '03 cobra rims with 255/55/r18 size tires.. It did really well, the Kumho's I used just stayed GLUED to the road, but I had ladder bars and a rear sway bar to help out, and I didnt even have an l/s. They gave my truck a pretty good stance too, even for having stock XLT suspension.

that is the exact setup i want to run, you thieving bast4rd!

You'll probably need at least a 2/3 drop.

and if you are concerned about rear traction, get some traction bars or add a little weight in the bed.

I look forward to seeing you accomplish this, what kind of prices are you getting everything for?

Well Tire rack says 713 for all 4 tires shipped, Ebay says 494 shipped for the SVTs. Which is only 10 bucks more then the Cobra 17s I was looking at. I figure Ill pay in full for the rims and make payments on the tires. There is a tire shop right next to the shop I work at, they do all the work for basically free cause were buddies. I have a charcoal truck which I want the black headlights and black billet grill next. Then to get rid of the crappy chrome on the bumpers and stuff. I was thinking of doing a 2/3 drop also, its only 470 from DJM and I can do that on the weekend.

470 for the 2/3? that sounds really high. that's how much the 4/5 should be. I would shop around, because that doesn't sound right.

Do they make a Street Scene speed grille for the 04+? because that would look a lot better than a regular black billet

Maybe. You could probally get a much better deal, they charged me 89$ shipping to south GA, and I still got them for less than 400$.The funny thing is that I ordered tires from Tirerack and when they came in the shipping label said they were from midway, thats like 30 mins from me.

those tires are awesome! they definitely are one of the best looking street tires. the handling is amazing too. you wont have to worry about spinning your tires unless your trying to.

Well yeah I was looking at the 17" cobras from that same store here but 17's have a bad tire selection unless you dont mind gap or what to run with quite a bit of tire. Also they say 89 Shipping 400 for rims, ones I want say 189 for shipping 305 for rims....

As for the kit I was looking at DJM and they have 2/3 drop with shocks and everything you need. And nope to the grill, they look great till 03, then for the 04 its cut outs and poopie crap. The 3 Piece looks good here but I have the 6 piece which would be more like this

I didnt buy a warrenty through tire rack, they say they are sending me a BFG Warranty Packet and a MAST Registration Card whatever that is.

Ok awesome thing was, they called me up and said "hey a 255/55/18 is kind of big for a Ford ranger are you sure it will fit?" I said ya blah blah and he said "oh ok awesome, oh yea I see I can have your tires over nighted to your house so you get them tomorrow instead of 2 days and it will save you 9 bucks you want me to go ahead and do that?" I was like hell yea!!!

So I got my rims coming in maybe monday and my tires will be here tomorrow! That lowering kit says its for up to 02, I found what I need on summit racing for 400

I don't think anything changed from 02 to 04. hopefully someone will chime in.

I don't think anything has changed on 2wd xlt front suspension since 97. Anyway all you get in that are lowering coils, Hanger flippers, and lower shocks.

but Like D says check your end links

and take like 100000000 pictures for me please

Karpe - They will do pick up. I have called them before but never used them yet. When I throw the bullitt rims I have on my truck (couple a weeks) I need to get the cobra center caps since mine have the mustang pony on them. They're located in the vicinty of University Parkway and 301. I haven't been there yet, but I know that is the general area.

I have a pair of 245/40/18 Toyo Proxes FZ4 tires w/ about 80%-90% tread life left. I had it on my 18x9 Y2K wheels before buying a set of 275/35/18 for the front and 285/35/18 for the rears. I'm selling it for $200 for both.
