Tires Opinion for a 2002 XLT 4x4

look at some tires for my truck and im really unsure on what to get
i want to get more into off-roading and i want to run a tire on my stock rim (16" 5spoke FX4s)
im looking mainly for a set of 33s that might have a chance of clearing the stock wheel well, but a lift wont be a problem because its most likely coming in the near future..

so any tire 33" and running on the stock rim, suggestions

33's should fit on your stock rims... may have to get 33 10.5 instead of 12.5

i was thinkin of going with firestone destinations or bfgoodrich a/ts
as a 33" would either fit in the factory ride hide with the stock rims

anyone ride it or tried it?

on a 16" rim get a 285x75x16 tire and you will be good. you will have to crank the t-bars some but thats all

no rubbing at all for most people with 265x75x16. which is a 32 inch tire. that is what i have. a 285x75x16 is pushing it... some say it works some dont, personally i bet the 285s would have fit on my truck no problem.

lots of people have BFG AT's 33 on stock rims or 15" after market rims, they fit good

Winks has them, and Lilblue04fx4l2 (neil) has them

If i was you......

i would sell the 16's and buy 15's.

Tires are WAY cheeper for 15 inch rims and you can buy a true 33x12.5 inch tire.

if you keep the 16's you will spend more on tires and only get a 32x10.5

plus if you buy new 15's you can get some sweet rims that look better then stock.

Agree !

Its what winks and me did. Winks sold his stock wheels and tires not sure how much he got for them. I got a set of american eagle alloy wheels for about $350ish i think at the 4 wheel jam in Lima.

Orignally i was going to buy a set of edge plus rims off of John Griggs but they changed the caliper and rotor size in 2003 so they did not fit long story but edge plus, or edge 15" stock rims will fit you 2002. John Griggs might still have his for sale, think he might only want $100 for then if you buy 33x10.5 BFG's you end up saving money over 265x75x16 of same tire.

Okay so i recently went to a parts manager at a Ford Dealership and i asked if i could buy a set of Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 285/75/16 through them.. he told me they would rub and all but i told him that i was going to purchase the Perf Access. 3" Body Lift, he said whatever and its still going to look like a tall skinny bike tire, so i went over some pictures and they look fine to me (im not phased by his opinion) and then i just say "so can i buy them or not" and he justs says "No, you wont pass inspection" and i left.. what do i do now..

try to find another place to do them for you... if your getting a body lift you might want to wait until you get the lift, then get the tires so you know how they are going to look

well im only 16, and my mom wont even let me do it because the actual Dealership said that the tires would never work on my truck, and when i talked about trimming to make them fit a little better, they had never heard of it and laughed in my face

by the way a 285/70/16 is only a 31.7 inch tire

wrong

265/75/16 = a 31.7 inch tire

285's are so very close to 33"

I checked both sites for my tires and got the same thing twice. They are correct.
