4WD wheels on a 2WD?

Its been asked before im sure, but i cant find a real concrete answer.

My truck - 09 Sport, 2WD. Im looking around for some of the awesome looking FX4 split spoke 16 inch wheels. They just look alot nicer. Will these fit a 2WD though? It appears the XLTs use the same wheels for the 2wd and 4wd models so in THEORY it would.... but we know how that works.

Using the search feature it seems the wheels i currently have wont fit a 4WD but that seems to be a caliper interference issue.

But will these fit my 09 2WD sport?

They SHOULD. I really dont see why not...look at Rob's (SVT01Ranger)'s truck...it has 16" 4x4 wheels on it, and he's a 2wd.

What wheels do you currently have again? The 7 spoke?

Steve...they'll fit. If they'll fit a 2wd coilspring truck, they'll fit a torsion bar 2wd.

The only real area of concern is the center hole in the wheel....which if they'll fit a 2wd coilspring truck, they'll sure fit a torsion bar truck. I believe that middle hole needs to be bigger for a 4x4 truck anyhow, so in my opinion, you are good to go.

No they will not work. They are designed to take torque from all 4 wheels and transfer it to the ground. If you only have power going to 2 of them they will probably blow up.

Seeing as my 2wd has a trak-lok in the back, will the two rear wheels be ok? Or will the metallurgy simply see through my shenanigans and just blow up all 4 of my wheels plus the spare now for trying to pull a fast one?

Your spare will be safe. Its a steal rim.

Bringing this back from the dead. I have the same question as the OP from this thread. Well, not really a question but I tried to put the exact wheels pictured on my 03 edge 2wd and they do not fit over the rotor and the dust cap definitely sticks out of the hole way to far even if they did fit. Does anyone have these on their 2wd and if so what did you do to make them fit? Boring out the hole in the wheel would make it so the center cap would not be able to be used which would not be a good look. The only thing I can see doing is use spacers. Any help would be great. Tks

Using a spacer is about your only option. The 2wd center spindle cap really limits your selection of wheels that fit without modification.
