Tire Life

Alright i am planning ahead for which tires im going to get.
I currently run Definity Dakota A/Ts which have a 50k mile warranty....pattern is similar to the BFG AT and they seem to be doing well......
My dilemma is whether to get the Definity tires, BFG A/T or MTKM2s.

What is the average life you guys have gotten outta the BFG AT and MT?
EDIT: Definities are made by Cooper tire and sold at PepBoys and they are buy three get one free.

I got about 25,000 on my Cooper Discoverer STT's

About 2,500 of those miles are offroad.

I've got nearly 30,000 miles on my BFG AT's and they are doing pretty good... (I've never rotated them, though they are wearing pretty evenly) I will probably get another 10,000 before I have to replace them.

If you keep them inflated to 50psi you can easily see 60k out of them. The BFG A/T's are tricky to say just because it all depends on what PSI you have them at and how nice you are to them. At work we suggest you rotate them every 5k miles.

I run mine around 33 PSI (air down to 15psi-18psi) when wheeling and they have 1/4 tread left. They have chuncks missing and have been used heavily offroad (hence the chunking). I already have 30k miles on them which is really impressive to me! Heck I've had a locker back there for the last 15k miles which weares tires quicker, but these things last.

My definity mud terrains are holding up well. Have about 20,000miles on them right now. Hauled a 3500lb trailer across the country, fair share of wheelin, and such. 40psi nitro is whats in them.

I have put a total of about 350,000 miles on several sets of 31" BFG AT tires. I typically get 65K to 70K miles out of a set. That includes a fair amount of off-road duty. The KOs don't seem to get quite as good mileage but it is close.

On my Ranger I run about 34 psi in the front and 31 psi in the rear with a 300 lb shell on the back. If you run 50 psi you may get better gas mileage but you will also wear the center of the tire faster unless you are carrying heavy loads.

You can put them up to 80PSI They are a load range E tire. When you get them installed ask them to put high pressure stems in. Although you dont need them they are less likely to break if they hit something.

This is coming from a guy that installs 3-4 sets of them a week. I know what im talking about.

The BFG A/T's come "pre-cupped" Meaning they have more tread in the middle than on the sides. Also keeping them at 50 PSI it will help keep the edges square and prevent them from rounding.

Nitrogen or air, doesnt matter, 40 psi is 40 psi. If someone tells you that you cannot mix regular air and nitro, walk out of there and never come back. They have no clue what they are talking about.

I don't care what kind of tire or what kind of valve steam you have on there. I would never run 50PSI in any tire!

You realize they are 7-ply load range E and they can be inflated to 80 PSI right? It says so right on the side of the tire, go take a look. Most of the trucks we install these on require 80 psi. Its perfectly safe, I'm not making this **** up, I know my stuff. After all I am a Michelin certified tire technician.

I really don't care what your title is. And guess what this is a site for RANGERS and were talking about tires for his RANGER. So who gives a **** about load range E and tires for semis?? Cause I don't. He isn't going to be running those tires so why even talk about them?

In a standard load tire yes you are asking for a blow out becasue they max out at 35 or 44 depending on the tire. But a BFG A/T maxes out at 80 PSI and it is completely safe to inflate it up to 50 psi.

Um all BFG A/T's are load range E take a look at the side of your tire, youll see it there.

For the most part you should never run LRE tires below 50 PSI or you are going to be looking at premature wearing.

Also the OP was asking about them. So I gave him an answer and when you asked why I gave an explination.

Also if you want to take a look around the training for Michelin certification is pretty tough. Costco is one of the only companys that has a manufacturer certify their employee's. This is not just some title they gave me, its something that I have earned because EXPERIENCE.

Why dont you go do some research before you run your mouth again.

I bet 75% of guys on here with BFGs run them under 50 psi and have no problem with wear. Mine are wearing great and I ran them at 30/35 since I got them.

Well as I stated before. I don't really give a **** about your certifications just like you wouldn't care about mine.

And 2, you need to do the research because if you think I have BFG A/T's then I think you really did just get that title given to you. Because mine look nothing like that. And I know from experience on running multiple tires and getting life out of them. I don't have stock tires like you do!

This is called a Cooper Discoverer STT

Well between the little picture you have on your avatar and the way you were running your mouth I thought you had BFG A/T's. and if you think im running stock tires the then im guessing they just gave you a title too.

Just as a question where do you get your tire information from?

What information? What I run my PSI at? I get that from experience, a buddy who is a certified mechanic, a buddy who does tires for a living, local wheeling groups, and people who know tires. But mostly my own experience.

Ok so your experience with one or two set of tires and by a buddy is better then the information given out by a manufacturer that sells millions of sets of these tires a year?

You also should know, when a tire manufacture comes out with a tire, they cannot test in on every vehicle. What they recommend is a generalization, a broad spectrum designed to appeal to as many vehicles as possible.
