Depends on what kind of wheeling a person does.
For mudding/snow you need a wide tire.
For rockin' you can run anything you wan't. Wide or narrow.
For general trail use and mostly highway, tall and skinny is great to cut down on some weight, and less footprint means less rolling resistance.
Pro's and cons of each.
I see alot of the expedition guys run the 255/85 or the 33x10.5. But I am not sure why since the see mostly offroad and less pavement than the typical weekend wheeler.

Most of the guys around here run 33x12.50. I don't like the tires sticking that far out past the truck. I like a fit, snug look. The guys that run 12.50 wide tires are always stuck in mud because they 'float' and can't find bottom. The guys that run 10.50 wide tires go straight though the same stuff no problem. My theory is because the thinner tire can find bottom easier and can actually get grip and go. Most of my driving will be pavement but on weekends definetly offroad. No rocks or any obsticles to climb over around here, mostly mud.

If I can read correctly, I believe the OP was asking about if anyone with a RANGER was running 31X10.5s/255-85's and pictures.....not JEEPS and 33x12.5's.
We get it you can wheel. Big deal. People wheel everyday.
Here is a picture for the OP since this is what he was asking about:
If it is more about how one drives, then a tire that is less than 2" wider or narrower won't matter in ANY kind of terrain bro.
Besides, real wheelers don't run 33's. If you are actually doing the hard stuff, 35's are the minimum he/she would be running.

and since we're apparently talking about things real wheels don't run, I'm pretty sure they don't run shitty TTB's either.

apparently you can't read correctly, because he said 33.3x10. I wasn't posting a picture to show the OP, I was posting a picture to show you that 33x12.5's aren't disproportionally "fat". what would it matter if I posted that picture but instead of a jeep, a ranger with 33x12.5s? it wouldn't. a rim and tire are the same on whatever vehicle you put them on. my ranger wouldn't have made my tires shrink or some ****. hop off my nuts. I clearly said "its more about how you drive, than the tire size though", way to say what I already said. a 2" wider tire won't matter in any kind of terrain? really? you obviously don't wheel in anything but puddles. or you're a mall crawler, and that picture was the only time your truck has seen anywhere offroad. real wheelers don't run 33's, hmm? I'm in high school, I can't afford 40's sorry. I climb everything the people I wheel with, climb on 35's to 44's. you're truck wouldn't make it up the first hill out of the parking lot. you obviously aren't a real wheeler with your 33's then either. another reason I run 33's, because I don't feel the need to restrict my flex with bigger tires. your bumper looks like a ****ing two year old made it too, btw.

Nowhere did I say anything about myself being a real wheeler? Your unibody XJ wouln't last 5 min on the Rubicon or Forcdyce (all rocks btw). Neither would my truck and neither would the OP's vehicle. Very few Rangers actually could.
Typical highschooler. Narrow minded and ridden with attitude that his way is the best way.
Take your attitude somewhere else bud, your not helping the OP with it, nor anybody else's opinion of you, especially mine. Thanks for the personal attacking, it shows you are real mature. Anybody can rage a cussing fit and trash someone else's vehicle. You proved that you are of normal IQ.
Now do you have anything else to contribute? I did already, with what little knowledge I apparently have.
Have nice day, I am thoroughly enjoying mine bantering with you about nothing.

Evan, thanks for posting that pic. Love that Mazda.. Exact angle I wanted of one too! Those look great and would love a set myself. I believe when I get around to actually getting some I'll go with the 255/85-16's. Maybe if I burn the ones I have on there now I can get some after I get back from Germany in late December.

I got an attitude because you decided to call me out, out of no where, so who's the mature one? I never said 33x12.5 or die, did I? I was speaking my mind that I think 33x10.5 are useless. agree or disagree, IDGAF.
I don't care what your opinion is on me, you don't know me, nor do I know you. but I've concluded that you're an *******.
was I saying I'm a genius? then who the hell cares if I have a normal IQ.
this is stupid. so I'll just gonna leave it at that.

Would love to wheel, but with someone with a little less rage . Me and my buddies crack on each others rides all the time, and seeing how you reacted to Evan's post, it wouldn't last long before you were upset .
