Bulges on tire sidewall

I just bought a set of Cooper ATR's 245/75R16 last fall, I've put maybe 5k on them. When I got home today I seen bulges in 3 out of the 4 tires, mostly on the front passenger tire. I keep these tires inflated at 41-42 PSI. The max PSI on the tire says 44psi, just wondering if I kept them too inflated or if i got a bad set?

pics now.

radials tend to look flat when they are not...it's a normal thing for radials. actual bulges.....thats a whole nothing issue. do they look like growths? if so...DO NOT drive with them like that.

well, there not very bad right now as far as the bulges, they dont look like a tumor but their like when you get a bump on the head, its "swelled" in parts. On one tire it looks like a door ding though, it goes in. The dash is about 2 inches long just a straight dash. Can i drive them just around town for now? Your scaring me... haha

Also, i got these at a goodyear dealership, they better replace them, they tried to rip me off by saying i need new ball joints last time. ...theres gotta be a warrenty anyways,

drive them straight to the tire place, and demand some fixing to happen.

Well if it pushes in then it is dangerous (the rubber is weak and about to burst). Be careful driving it! Can you post pics with something beside the bulge so we can compare the size?

It's VERY RARE to have 3 out of 4 tires being defective!! We need pics. Seriously. Pics are a must in this case. It's very rare to have one, let alone three defective carcasses.

Drive straight to the tire place. Seriously. Do not drive your truck if you can. Have a friend follow you as you slowly drive it to the tire place to get taken care of. I have a tire here for my chevy that had a slight bulge, then became a tumor, and since I saw that, I took it off the truck. Now, the tread has ripped off the belts, side wall ripped up. I should go get a pic and post it. lol.

Blems are not a structurally defective tire. They normally have cosmetic defects. Like half a letter being black instead of white.

There is no way a tire company could sell a structurally defective tire.

But it is possible to have 3 ****ty ones. Before I got the tires I have now, I had a set of Dunlops. Well after fighting my truck on the way home, I went to another place that was closer to get them rebalanced. Turns out 3 of 4 were out of round. Needless to say I took them back right away, and got my money back. IMO if they didnt check the tires before they put them on my truck, then they do not deserve to try to make things right.

I just went to take a second look at the tires, as for pix I took the camera but the bulges/indents are not deep enough to really get a good idea what size they are. Now as far as the tires, I went and just slide my hand around each tire, there is actally 2-3 indents on all 4 tires, they are just like a dash though, about 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches long. These indents are probably only an 8th of an inch deep (probably just shy of that, between a 16th and an 8th. As for the bulges it seemed they barely came out, its only to the touch.

Now this may have caused me to notice this all more, i know that after driving the tires get hot and the pressure increases in the tires (if im correct). When I went to check the tire pressure they were all at 44 psi, then i released pressure down to 42. This last time I went to check them it has probably been 2 hours since i last drove the truck. I was thinking maybe with the higher pressure the bulges seemed to be more noticable, because now they arent looking as bad.

Just to clear things up, these bulges, indents arent all on the part of the tire that is currently touching the ground, because with the radial it makes it look just a little flat.

Are the bulges in the same place on all 3 tires?

Do they run from the rim to the tread? Or do they run along the tread edge of the sidewall or along the bead? Does it feel firm or squishy?

If 2 psi makes a noticeable difference I would be wary of the strength of the tire.

You need to get good pics from different angles. Get a bright light and hold it off to one side to make the bulge cast a shadow.

Certainly take the tires back to where you got em, and have them look. If I could see the tires I would be able to tell you if they were junk, but since I can't see them in person my opinion is to err on the side of caution and get them replaced.

Over time the carcass of the tire can deform, if there's 3 of them though could be manufacturing issues. Check the dot date and see if they were all made at the same time.

Get them looked at. I wouldn't continue driving on them. Have you been running over every curb you see or something?
But why the F are you running such high pressures in them? Must ride like crap and wear down the centers. I would almost say they are over-inflated, you don't run the tire at max pressure unless you are putting the max load on them.
I never ran over 35 on either explorer or the rangers. Hell the rears on my F150 are at 32.

If you are overinflated then the inside will wear out and if you are underinflated the outside will wear out.

You don't add air based on the look of the tire or by the kick method.

Yeah but if you want your sidewalls to look fresh after 20,000 miles you have to keep it at like 50+ psi, right?

*sarcasm*

+1 see that all the time.. not on toyo's lol but, have it checked out. no one can tell you over the phone or by pice on the forum if everything is ok or not. someone needs to look at your tires in person. weather you go back there or somewere else get them checked out soon..

i had pretty big bulges on one of my tires sidewalls. Didn't notice it until i had a flat. and filled it back up with air. The bulges were the size of golfballs (remember when that happened Shane???). Anyways, it was very weird for me. took it to the tire shop and they replace it in front of me, and the inside was FILLED with rubber chunks, I guess it was defective lol. But definitely get it checked out.

impact bruises dude. dont drive on them scary ****. go to the shop where you got them and ask them what the **** is up. Really though. not safe stuff to drive on. more than likely a manufacturing defect
