Trading my Cragars for Mickeys

***New Pics on Page 2***

I wasn't really happy with the massive weight of my Cragar Soft 8's after I bought them, so almost immediately sought to trade them.

About a month or so ago, I was offered a trade for a set of Mickey Thompson Classic II's with simulated beadlock. I was going to go ahead with the trade, but then I lost my job and had other things come up, so I told the guy to hold off.

I messaged him the other day to see if he still was interested in doing the trade and we are going to meet up this Saturday and swap rims.

I'll be going from these

To these, and will be keeping my Discoverers as well.

I imagine these rims will be significantly lighter than the Cragars, and probably won't look too bad on my truck either. I'll update with pics on Saturday after everything's installed. I know they're a pretty played out wheel, but it's the style I like. I love the look of the Cragars on my truck, but they're just too heavy and are affecting my fuel milage and overall driveability, making the truck work harder to stop,go and keep going.

They are heavy as all hell. However my aluminum wheels I have on my Barracuda still weigh in at about 42lbs a wheel. That is a 18x9 with a 295/45/18 tire on it. I'd look more into it instead of just saying "i imagine these will be significantly lighter". There has to be more aluminum to have the strength. Wheels like draglites or prostars are strong and extremely light.

edit
My d-windows, pretty much the same as soft 8s are 28lbs each.
The classic 2s are 20lbs each

not bad weight savings, 32lb reduction in rotating mass should be noticeable.

Well, 32lbs is 32lbs...thats not including the tires though, and the rubber is pretty darn heavy too.

However, any weight savings are good savings. It's also not just the fact that they're lighter that I want them....look at them! *drools*

That's another reason for the swap. Feels like I'm running on 4 overheated drum brakes.

One really crappy cell phone pic to tie you over til tomorrow when I can get some good pics. I forgot to bring my digital camera today. Doh!

They also thankfully were not the fake beadlock style either. I REALLY like these rims on the truck. And they are SOOOOOO much lighter and the truck drives way better now.

My corners are smoked, as are my tails. But yes, clears would be nice.

My 15x8 steelies were 28lbs each x 4 = 112lbs of rotating mass.
My 15x8 Prostars weigh 12lbs each x 4 = 48lbs of rotating mass.
64lbs gone.

That is without tires.

Steel = cheap, heavy, cheap to fix.
Alloy = not cheap, light weight, expensive to fix.

I couldn't beleive how light these Mickeys are. I picked one up and was like 'holy crap,I could toss this thing across the parking lot!'

I can't beleive the deal I got on them. Traded Cragars I paid $330 for, straight up for these Mickeys and just had to pay mounting.
