Have i lost my mind.. dropping tire size...

I have a 2002 ranger 4X2 with a 2.3. K&N cold air intake and flow master exhaust.. I'm running 31X10.5 general grabber at2 I love the tire but i hardly see 5th gear and have no power at all. Oh i have the 3.73 rear. I have a extra pair of rims and father in law donated 4 205/65/15's which is 25.5in dia. going to see what i get for power and mileage.. truck is rated for a 225/75/15 tire which is 28.3 in dia. with the 31's i'm getting 27mpg avg i drive 90 miles a day round trip to and from work.. who has a guess on what new mileage will be... hope to try out this weekend... I think i may end up buying new general at2 tires at recommend size so i can pull my boat and save the 31's for when i get my father in laws 4X4 ranger with v-6....

Wait, you're getting 27 MPG in a Ranger with 31's and you're dissapointed? I'd be thrilled if I got that. LOL.

If you drop down to a 205 you will probably be at about the same mileage per gallon since it is a smaller tire then stock. If you want the best gas mileage then you need to put stock tires back on. Otherwise you can regear to 4.10's.

Your getting 27 mpg with 31's? Dang, I'd love to get that. I have 31's and I am getting probably 17.

You are traveling less than your odometer says you are. The smaller tire= more revolutions therefore skewed mileage. Just factor that in when finding mpg's by odometer

HOLY DOG CRAP YOU GET 27 MPG WITH 31's?!?!?! If I was getting that I wouldn't change anything. But I would keep the 31's and re-gear to 4.10's, probably your best bet.
