I just got my AAA membership package. I had no idea they offered so much great stuff. And also had no idea there were benefits other than roadside assistance and maps...yeah I just crawled out from under a fairly large rock I guess.
Anyway I was looking thru the material and holy crap...AAA members get 10% off Cooper tires. My next tire purchase will be Cooper Discoverer STT's. Not just because of the discount, but also because I've heard only good things about them and they look badass.

So anyway, just wanted to let y'all know about this. Maybe you're members and didn't know about it or aren't members or whatever....um..yeah

 

I am sure John will love to hear that... He needs two more for his truck! BTW how much is it to join up?

AAA is well worth the money you spend to be a member. I have my truck insurance through them, and it saves me a bit of money because i'm a member of AAA. Plus you can also get discounted tickets to theme parks, You can get movie tickets earlier than the theaters sell them, also discounts on hotels, rental cars or trucks *cough* rental-off-road *cough*.

At least that's what my local AAA place offers, look into what yours has to offer. I bet you will be really amazed with all of the offers they give.

I saw all the other things they offer and they are great but the Cooper tire deal REALLY caught my attention. They have good insurance? I have Progressive now and have been very happy with them but if AAA is cheaper.....

 

i was talkin to a tow truck driver last time i assisted someone and pulled him to a safe place and the guy was sayin how he took that flat bed back in the mud and holes to get people out. he only took it so far though. just a little bit farther was enough to get a tractor stuck.

 

On my truck, insurance through premier with full coverage, with no rental or towing, was $1900 per year.

Insurance through AAA which is commerce where I live, is $1400 per year, with full coverage, and rental added. No need for towing because that's where AAA comes in

That's with me being a driving step 15 (lowest is 9 and highest is 32). AAA saves me $500 per year on insurance. PLUS I don't need to go and pay my insurance every month, they deduct it automatically out of my checking account, and I don't have to renew my policy every year with my first payment being a big amount, usually $400, because AAA offers a 12 month plan. I pay 12 months instead of 10 like other insurance companies. Therefor I have one straight monthly payment and that's it..

 

Hmmm Progressive is cheaper than that....Thanx for the info! I would like the 12 mo contract tho...

 

I don't think that they offer progressive, all state, or geico insurance in massachusetts. I'm not sure about progressive, because I haven't seen any agents around where I live that offer progressive. I know that the other 2 that I listed is not available in massachusetts. I don't know why, it's stupid in my opinion. But there's something up with it if they won't offer coverage in MA.

 

I already get a 10% discount another way, and they are not "additive", sad to say.

It is because MA is a 'no-fault' state. If someone hits you you are legally limited in how you can sue for damages, your own insurance is supposed to cover it. The law says that no one is at fault, no matter what the circumstances of the accident. So if some drunk runs into your parked car while noone was in it, yep, you are legally responsible for the damages! Lovely no?! .. The result: companies refuse to offer insurance to you and the lack of competition drives costs up. Not to mention you can no longer get reductions in premium costs on account of a good driving record because statistically you are just as likely to be hit by someone else as everyone else out there. You are going to have issues finding a decent rate if you have a good driving record.

Were I you I'd call your state rep. While your at it ask him about your out of control tax situation..

NJ is another no-fault state. I thought MA & NJ were the only two no-fault states, but I recently learned that there are 12 now, plus DC. FL, PA, and NY are all on the list. Surprisingly (to me) CA is not..

I think Liberty Mutual offers insurance for you in MA. I am w/ them and have been since I bought my first truck ('99). They give me a pretty fair shake. My GF (who lives in MA) is also w/ Liberty..

 

FL is definately a no-fault state but AAA listed I could get ins thru them...doesn't matter really, I love Progressive.

 

I get deductions on the good driving record thing. I was a step 21 a couple of years ago, I was clean for 1 year and it went down to a 19. Then I was clean for 3 more years and it went down to a step 15. I believe I am at a lower step now, not too sure. While my steps dropped, my insurance dropped as well. I went from $2500 per year to $1400 per year.

That no fault thing really sucks, BUT nothing a good lawyer can't do for you!!
