Another bead lock thread..

I'm probably going to pick up some 15x10 8 spoke wagon wheels tomorrow. And either those, or my 15x8s are going to get sacrificed for some DIY bead locks.

my plan is to do the bead locks, and possibly weld up the valve stem hole, then drill one farther back.

I kinda want to use the 15x8s for the bead locks since DIY locks add like 3/4" to the width, and if i do it with the x10s i'll have whats close to a 15x11 running 35x1250s

BUT with the 15x10 i can move the valve stem farther back into the wheel away from danger than i can with the 15x8

i'm leaning heavy on the 15x8s
any opinions?

this is a neat idea. how does the beadlock at 3/4 of an inch?
i personally would do the 15x10. IMO 8 inch wheels are just simply to small for 12.5 tires. regadless of widening them.. the 15x10 also give you a larger footprint and maybe some stability? so thanks my 2 cents

they are.
but i'm going to find someone with a sand/media blaster and have them cleaned up real nice, then paint them.

also a lot easier to lose a bead.

what yo do with DIY bead locks is weld a plate on the outside of your rim.. put the bead on that, and bolt another ring to that sandwiching the bead in there, basically on what WAS the outside of the wheel.

lemme see if i can find a write up/how to.

here's closer to what I'm doing, welded inside the lip, not ontop.

I'll either be using Ballistic Fab's DIY bead locks or A to Z Fab, or Great Lakes offroad (GLO are a little more expensive but i can get a bigger rock ring and designs )

do the 15x8s. you have to remember that when you throw that beadlock ring on there, you will have quite a bit protecting that valve stem versus what you have now....nothing

yea, i shouldn't have started the thread. I'm still probably gonna move the valve stems back so their easier to get to.

I'll get the x10s, sand blast them, paint, swap my tires over onto them.. and then slowly turn the 8s into bead locks

Go with AtoZ, Zach is a GREAT guy....though many would say that of most small fab shops!

Look into the flush mount valve stems, Summit has some that are almost flat, no rubber stem.

15x8 over 10 is a no brainer, I may try to find some 7s to DIY a set myself someday....when the money tree finally blooms of course!
