yesterday after getting back from pool with the GF, i was bored, so i decided to piddle with the Ranger. Its beeen annoying me seeing the black stuff on the backside of the rim through the spokes. So i took on the task of taking each wheel of, and spraying it with Awesome, and tackiling it with a scotch pad. also took Awesome and a brush to the back of tire. they tuned totally blackish brown when i sprayed the cleaner on them! While i had the back wheels off, i rattlecanned the drums, they look new again! to the pics

wow i musta done a horrible job cleaning, the finished pics are up there....i edited it, so you can see the difference....the clean ones are shiny whereas the unclean ones are brown....ill get pics from the front of wheel today...

 

Looks good, your brave trusting that stock jack as a jack stand though.

 

didnt take long....i guess it isnt any differrent then if you had a flat and changing it on side of road.....should prolly used stands, didnt think about it....

 

yeah they arent the sturdiest but the wheels look good now!

 

Yeah, that's what I was talking about some from the outside.

That dirt and crap on the backside always bothered me too until I got black wheels. Great for the lazy man!

 

i dont know too many people that take time to clean the back of the wheels. lol

ur not the only one to tell me this today. (my boss told me i needed kids!) but there was caked on brake dust and such and it bothered me, and i was bored, it looks great now!

You must not have kids. No way I could get away with doing that...lol. I would just rather paint the insides of my wheels black

 

heres what i use to clean my tires and wheels. it is GREAT stuff. $1 dollar a bottle at Dollar Tree



i really recommend this stuff to anyone. it says to dilute it, but you dont have to. ps...dont inhale it when claning, itll take ur breath away and it burns ur throat

I have been wanting to do this to mine, but my air compressor is broke, hoping to do it soon.

 

Looks good Scott. Just a question, but why not paint the brake drums black? Or is that just the primer?

 

its black, just a really matte black! actually its Heat spraypaint (made for wood stoves, grilles, etc....) i used it to paint my tailpipe black bc of the high temps (works great and looks great). i had like 3/4 of a can left, so i just used that. in person its black, just not a deep black

 

too lazy huh clayton? cant use a 4 way and a floor jack....JK LMAO.....no i wish i had an ait compressor for taking of the wheels, but it didnt take long.....h btw, nice avatar, whered you get it......lol

 

next time ill use a a stand...and it is partical board, i put i put it down to stablize jack and so that i didnt get all itchy on that grass....

i should have went to moms house (she has a shop)...

 

Won't a Scotch pad hurt the clear coat on the back??

 

what i used wasnt actually a scotch pad. it was a cheap sponge with the scubby ti=hing on the back...it didnt do anyting to my wheels (not th say it wont) it fot them clean though

 

Man oh man! Wish I had all your spare time! And I don't have kids either! I need to do this to also, mine has about two years of brake dust, mud, and whatever else I have ran through caked on the back of the rims. I will go to the fire house and use the huge jack we got there down there. I use a Brillo pad to clean away the surface rust on my rims.

 

UPDATE:

Heres pics form outside of Wheel. Again, it is not a big noticible diference, but i think it looks better, and no i dont have any from before on the outside....

looks good, I's weird too, I try to do this at least after every wheeling trip as alot of mud throws tire balance off, and I even do it to my spare and I check the spare or any damage from wheeling, you never know when you need it.
