my new tires a few questions?

I was offroading in colorado and damaged 2 tires. I limped it into town and got a new set of BFG a/t 285/75/16. They only had load range E in stock and I didn't have time to wait to order load range D. They don't make that tire in load range C. I'm thinking the tire might be so stiff its not going to form to the road when in 4x4.

I'm wondering if there is any problem running load range E. I notice the ride is rough and the tire doesn't seem to form to the road even with low air pressure like 27 lbs.

I also cannot believe the loss in power! I was running 265/75/16 and had plenty of power.

i'm wondering should i keep these tires and re-gear? how much do do new gears cost ?If i stick with 285 should i try to sell them and get load range D?

Or should I just sell this set when i get home and go back to 265/75/16? I'm thinking this might be cheaper.

They aren't a LOT bigger, but they are definitely heavier being E rated tires, which is probably where a lot of the power loss comes from. Re-gearing would be great but it's going to cost you between $1200 and $1500 unless you swap in used differentials that are already geared lower.

I would keep them and play with tire pressure some more. Have you did the chalk test to see if you are still running to much air?

Also if you don't want to spend the money on regearing you could always get a tuner with a torque tune. I know it made a big difference when I was running 285's and even when I was running 35's.

I'd find some tires that aren't E rated. 3/4 to 1 ton trucks burn off the rubber so fast someone will buy them quick i bet.

so do you guys think d rated tires will weigh less and I might get some power back ? now i got a few thousand on them I absoultely have to do something its way too slow i have to climb hills like a 6% grade in 4th or even 3rd. I used to climb a hill like that in 5th gear with no problems.

I will probably just sell these and go back to 265/75/16 . Still want to get a tuner but i keep blowing all my money on guns and hunting.
