Starting Over with 33's
Deploying again so that means I'm shopping for toys for when I get back. Long story short, I'm not happy with my wheel and tire setup on my Gen 4 lifted 2007 Ranger XLT 4x4, especially on highway driving. I've done everything from balancing on the vehicle, tire truing, swapping tires, etc. (only thing that worked was tire truing and that gets pricey!!!). So I'm looking to start over. Current setup is 33x12.50 on 15's.
Whats the best wheel and tire package recommendations for ease of balancing/tolerance and smooth driving, especially highway, while staying in a 33in tire? I plan to keep the 15s and throw on some serious off road tires on her just for fun on the weekends and camping.
Or even better, what is everyone running that is great and smooth on the highway in a 33in tire? I commute just over 70 miles a day to/from base and most of it is highway...can't take the shaking/vibrating/wobbling anymore.

You know, it could just be the shop I bought everything from...the shop that did the tire truing was the only shop that was able to get my truck running great on the highway, and I didnt order anything through them. Plus they weren't a franchise or anything...just a privately owned shop thats been around since 1955. But I still had to replace tires after the truing because I developed lateral movement in the rear tires

BFG KM2's are a great riding tire.
Do you have a mud terrain now?

Sully, which 17x8 Pro Comp wheels are you running? Are those the Series 7023s?
Chainfire, I'm still in ATs. I'm trying to put together a AT tire and wheel package suitable for highway use. Then I'll put some MTs or so on my current 15s. Plus I'm really not buying the whole hubcentric wave out there. Worst case, when I purchase my next set of wheels and tires I'll order rings that match the ID of the wheels and OD of the hub being mindful of the centercaps.

Now you've really got my attention Sully. I've been thinking about the EE Supercharger for when I get back too, but wont even purchase it til I get this truck driving right.
Stopped by a reputable tire shop today (the one that did my truing) and he highly suggested finding a quality set of 15x8s or 15x10s and slapping on a set of BFG TA/KOs or the BFG MT KM2s.
So I'm really leaning towards Sully's setup. But if I dont, whats the recommendations on best quality 15x8 or 15x10s out there? You know, closest to true and are the best fitting for the gen4 ranger. Really need a good setup for highway use. Also, are there any out there that have center caps that install from the outside rather than inside? If I end up making hubcentric rings, it would be nice to have a center cap that installs from the outside.
Sully, which way to do your center caps install?
All, If I'm asking too much please let me know...there are just way too many options out there. This deployment will afford me the cash to run optimal wheels and tires. I just want to get it done right with the best quality parts.

I'm running MT Signature Series 15s right now, but they're pretty well beat up...I had an issue with wheel studs and lug nuts. Apparently the wheel studs on the ranger are long and the original shop decided to cut them down to fit the lug nuts that came with the wheels. But they didnt cut them down enough cause the lug nuts still bottomed out and allowed some lateral movement. Since then I have replaced the wheel studs and added longer lug nuts to ensure the wheels can be torqued down without bottoming out, but the wheels are kinda chewed up now at the wheels stud holes. Thats another reason why I'm looking to start over.
Just trying to find that "for sure" setup to run 33s, you know eleviate fitment issues (ie, wheel stud / lug nuts, vibrations, etc)
