I just sold my four 35" Xterrains I've had for awhile, so I have some funds for a spare tire. I had been carring two of the 35's for spares, but now that I've sold all four, I really need a spare. Even though this will be a spare, it will eventually lead to four more of the same so that I'll have a dedicated trail set. I've decided on IROK's, but am kinda up in the air on running Bias or Radials. Because I'm gonna eventually have a dedicated set of trail tires, I'm leaning towards the Bias. They're also about $90 cheaper apiece than the Radial (through 4 Wheel Parts - no need to voice you're opinion on the source; we all know some ppl's' thoughts there).

if your going trail tires, why even consider spending the extra $90 for a street tire that will rarely if at all, touch pavement. imo: bias

Yeah, bias for dedicated trail tires. I have my MTZ's for offroad only and they're radial -- but I bought them before I got this deal on the BFG's I run on the street. When it's time to replace the MTZ's, I'll consider a nice bias tire.

That price difference also figures in if you have to replace one. It's a significant factor when the truck will be trailered and/or only driving to and from the trail on the dedicated trail set.

So I voted bias as well.

I know someone who ran them IROKs in radial and then got them in bias and he will never go back to the radial in them. The bias actually run just as well on the street as the radials did. He uses these on his DD. If you're gonna have another set of tires anyway for most of your driving then definitly go bias.

 

Now a follow-up: If I'm gonna get a 13.50 wide tire for a beadlock wheel, and my two options for wheel width is 8" and 9.5", would the 8" be the better choice?

 

I would go with the 9.5" width rim.

 

I woudl go with the 9.5 as well, 8 is just a ta narrow.. an 8" on a 12.5 woudl work, but 8 on a 13.5 is pushing it a bit too far

 

Bias. I run BIAS on the street. They suck but offroad I have no fear of destroying them only them putting me in situations to destroy my truck (check avatar).
