Spare

As my truck sits I have a 3in BL and 285/75/16 tires. I am wondering if I can use my spare tire? If not I am going to take it off. My spare is stock from the factory, not sure what size it is.

I have an open diff.

when i went from 245's to 265's i got the same size spare and it's now mounted in the bed.
since you went to 285's, i'd suggest getting another 285. trouble is, anything bigger than a 245 will NOT fit in the stock spare tire location.

if you were to use it, it would only be able to be used on the front when NOT engaged in 4wd. due to the fact that you probably have a limited slip in the rear and the height of different tire on each side on the axle would drive your gears crazy.

Why would you want to use your spare, anyways? If you're not getting to a place to replace the set of blown tires, then you shouldn't be rockin' it out. Obviously, right?

Word. I'm running into the same problem. I'd just mount one of the same size or around the same size on a wheel that'd fit and put it in my truck bed. You can find ones with 25-35% tread on it for quite cheap. That'd hold ya through until you got to a place to replace it.

You can definately use it, just on the front. If you use it in the rear, youll blow your rear end, one size tire on one side and the big one on the other side, isnt good for your drive train, tranny, and the rear end wont have no part of it....

Put it on the front youll be good, itll get you to where you have to go, just wouldnt use it for a long time seeings your 4wd. just changes the gear ratio, is the long and short of it

Itll get you out of a pickle, you can use it (front only), but the ideal situation would be to have a 285 handy, which is a PITA.

what about just carrying a big can of fix-a-flat with you? They have some for large tires, that should be enough to get you to a shop.

I would rather run the wrong size tire up front.... I hate fix-a-flat. It is messy and is only VERY temporary IMO
