Will this make much of a difference?

I have a 2000 Ranger Ext. Cab XLT 2wd and it came factory with the 15in wheels and 225/70-15in tires. The tires that are on it are Cooper Cobras and I do not like them. They were on it when I bought the truck. I am wanting to get new tires for it and I was wondering how much would it effect the speedo and such if I bought 235/75-15 tires instead of the factory size of 225/70-15? Also how much of a height and width difference would that change in tire size be?

here is a web site that you can go on and it gives you the metric to standard tire sizes and vice versa. It should help on giving you an idea on how much of a change you can go and I dont really know about the speedo.

Thanks for that link Anthony..

According to that I would be going from a 27.4in that is 8.9in wide to a 28.9in tire that is 9.3in wide. Assuming this is correct does anyone know how much, if at all, that would effect my speedo and such? Also my truck is mainly street driven, but I would like a tire that not only has a good ride, but that looks good as well. Any suggestions?

According to that calculator if your speedo reads 65mph then you're actually going 68.51mph

That is a great link that outdoorsman posted I was kind of wondering the same thing. I am planning on doing the same thing that you are looking at with tire sizes. After seeing how popular the BF Goodrich A/t's here on this board that is what I bought and I stepped up to the 235/75-15's also. I wish I had more to report on them, and how this upgrade worked out, but I have not even had the new tires put on yet :) So not sure if this will help, but just thought I would drop my two cents.

If you want to correct the speedometer for a tire diameter change, it can be done using a dealer flash tool. For 98~2000, RABS trucks are corrected in the GEM, 4WABS trucks in the 4WABS Module. For a 235/75-15, the tire revs/mile needs to be reset to 00721.

You really know your stuff. The problem is that I don't know what any of that means. lol. Can you dumb it down for me? What and where do I find a "flash tool"?

A Ford dealer or a well equipped independent shop should have the special diagnostic/programming tool for this. You'd have to pay them for the reflash labor - the tool is far too expensive to consider buying for home shop use.

The programming procedure for 2001+ is different and is done in the PCM. For these Rangers, you can go the dealer reflash route or use a flash tuner like an XCal2.
