Whats your guys opinion on the retread tires? I'm looking to bodylift my truck and I was dactoring in all the cost for new 33's when i came across this site... http://treadwright.com/default.aspx Is there any downfall to a retread? The price is really good

 

I'm curious too. I wonder how they're re-treaded. Use same sidewall, but new tread? Their testimonials seem pretty positive.

 

I havn't heard alot of bad from re-treads. But IMO I wouldnt trust a tire that has already gone through the wear. There is more to a tire than just the top portion of the tread. The sidewall takes wear too. If it was an off-road only truck, then I wouldnt have any problem, but the fact that they have already traveled 50,000+ miles, and then 50 more on my truck doesnt sit right with me.

I know semis tend to run them, but their sidewalls are also much much stronger than ours.


Marketing, what is the point of showing a non-positive mssg?

 

I have no experience but personally i prolly wouldn't run them on the highway. There is a reason why local tire shops don't do retreads. Not to mention when a semi has a blow out, its gonna take more than a blow to make him lose control. you blow out a retread on a little truck and you'd ruin at least and axle, fender/bedside and thats only if you don't have a collision.

 

I won't be buying any. I know how I've beaten my sidewalls. I know they wouldn't use sidewalls that are torn and cut up but still, like stated above they've already been used. Now if I was strapped for cash and wanted somehting would last me a little while or if I needed some tires for only a short period of time I'd buy some re-treads.
