I am searching around on Summit and want to buy a PA BL for my 05 XLT. I was ready to check out when I read that the lift "fits edge models only". Can someone explain to me why this is the case?

Also, will I need the shift extension since it says "for Mazda transmissions only"? I don't see how I could get away without it, but Ive never done a body lift before so I could be wrong.

And one last thing, I was planning on buying the lift from summit. Is there any better place?

This is the lift kit you need. Search it on Summit PRA-PA-70033
If you have a manual than most likely you will need the shifter extension as well. If you pull up your shifter boot and there is bolt going from the driver to passenger side with a nut on one side than you will need it.

If you search around for the lift on another website and find it cheaper, contact summit and tell them where you found it and for how much. They will match the price.

 

70033 is indeed the one you need as 04lvl2 pointed out. I have one sitting in my livingroom that came off a 05 FX4 Level II. Matter of fact I also have the shift extender for it and gap guards. AND I'm probably not going to put it on my truck. Hint hint! It has 7000 miles on it.

 

Man I wish I would have read this post sooner. I already placed my order with Summit for the lift and the shifter extender. Oh well. I am still undecided as to what to do about tires. I don't want to go out and buy new tires when I only have 18,000 on the ones that came with the truck. I doubt it will look too awful bad with stock tires but if it does I will just have to go get a new set. Is there anything bad that I might run into just so I have a heads up? I plan on taking a Saturday sometime in the near future and me and friend are going to try to knock it out in a day. Thanks,

 

I think I may lift my truck because it doesnt make much sense to lower a Edge. Is the 70033 kit that is highly reccomended? Roughly how tough is it to install a body lift and then what size tires would look good with the lift? I was thinking 33's but not sure on width of the tire or rim.

 

its a very nice kit, comes with everything needed and is pretty durable. there are several trucks here with that lift and i havnt heard anyone complaining.

for wheels you can run

15x8, or 15x10. if you want a bigger wheel then that is fina as well

a 33" tire will fit perfectly. and most people get a 12.5" wide tire. (33x12.5x15)

the install is very capable of wrapping up in one day. but expect to use the whole day.

 

i can do body lifts in about 3 hrs w/o a lift and about 90 min with a lift...

i can do it around 5 but that doesnt mean someone that has never done one before can do it that fast.

 

Its not a very complicated install right, because Im not sure if my dad will help but he may. I know my way around tools and stuff, there wouldnt happen to be a guide to it would there?

Thats what I like to hear, now I just have to pick out some rims and tires cuz I think it would look a little wierd lifted with stock wheels/tires. Any suggestions on tires, I will be driving mostly road. I heare BFD All terrains would be a good choice for that, I would want something good for the snow too. As for rims I open to pretty much anything but would be cool if they were black.

Kudos to summit racing for their fast shipment. I just got my body lift. Now just need to find some time to put it on.

I have a K&N FIPK. Will this be affected by the body lift? I read on my intake instructions that its not for use with a body lift.

 

yes, you cannot use the plate that is suppost to keep it pulling in colder air, just dont use it cause cutting it up to fit is going to defeat the purpose of using it. I have a 05 xlt and the same exact body lift you got, took about 12 hours to do it but I didnt have the right tools and I wasnt exactly in a hurry. YOu dont really need to do everything on the instruction list either, disconnect the ground strap at the fire wall, you may or may not need to dislocate the e-brake cable right under the driverside door (i did but I put it right back and did not use the bracket the kit came with), undo your intake, unbolt the radiator, undo the gas cap, ground strap on the engine block, brake lines are supported by plastic clips on the drivers side undo those and bend later, and that was it for me. you should have to lift jacks so aligning the cab is much easier too. and drill out the front body bushings to fit the bolt through it, just enought to get rid of the threads. good luck.

 

Well, 10 hours later ITS DONE! Looks awesome but i have a lot of cleaning up to do. I need to get my exhaust reworked, fix the shifter clearance issue, and keep an eye out for anything under the hood rubbing. I think everything should be ok except for the shifter. I cant get it into second gear so I had to remove the two screws holding the shifter to the floor. It will have to be trimmed next week since I am heading up to my parents cabin this weekend. So we will see how it handles the road trip this weekend.
