Body lift on stock rims/tires?

This weekend Im helping a friend do a body lift to his truck and i know when we are done putting it on, im gonna wanna body lift my truck next. Now I know your all gonna say spindle but, a body is all i can afford. So my question is, will my truck look goofy with stock rims/tires with a B/L? anyone have pics?

Do spindles first please, same money and do the most effective mod first. You will be more pleased with the results.

i dont think body lifts are crap at all.....but if you have the money, than go suspension. but there is a biiiig gap between prices on a bl than a suspension lift on a 4X4.
i hope i can get a bl sometime...

I don't know anything about spindles, but a BL is a real PITA. I have done 2, the trick I used to get the body mounts loose is heat the bolts with a torch and we put a 2x4 on a jaack and had the the weight of the truck holding it from moving. The one I did we did my my friends work(ford dealership) we had it on the lift and picked it up by the body mounts.

I think a BL and stock tires will look a little werid, but you can only build what you can afford. Maybe buy the body lift and keep it in your basement for a month or 2 until you have some money to buy tires, then do the lift and get your tires when you can. OR to hell with what anyone thinks, if you don't mind how it looks go for it, lift it and get your tires when you can.

on 4x4 sus lifts are way up there in price... but with 2wd trucks you can get a spindle lift for between 300-500$ so its well worth the exta 200$ to lift the suspention and not just the body

*rant*Bodylifts are not crap, I abused the **** out of mine for over a year and never had a problem with it. If he doesn't have the money for spindles and wants a bodylift, let the person get what they want. I hate all the bashing of bodylifts by people that don't have them. */rant*

I rolled on 32's with the stock rims for a long time and never had a problem. Those who say a bodylift and spindles are comparable in price, I'd like to see that. After its all said and done spindles probably cost atleast $300 over the price of a bodylift.

If you want a body lift get a body lift. When I bought my truck it had a body lift and stock size tires. I have changed the tires but the are still stock size just more agressive(and were free). The tires that are on my truck are 28" they don't look bad so they will work for now until I can get some other more important things done to the truck.

I never said they were the best and safest way to lift a truck. I just hate how everyone puts them down and not a damn one of them has a bodylift. Sorry I don't $2k to drop on a suspension lift.

Good choice not because BL are bad but if I had a 2wd that would be the first thing that I would do, then if I wanted more lift it be a BL afterwards. Cant wait to see the finished results.

I put them down because I have the right to put them down. I've worked on a lot of trucks with body lifts and they are what they are, crappy lifts. You should either build the truck right, or not build it. The vehicles I've seen with body lifts as opposed to any other type of non-block lift (yes, even drop down brackets are safer than body lifts) have tons of problems and cost even more to repair those problems. You get what you pay for, and you don't have to spend 2k on a suspension lift if you shop around and talk to people. I must know nothing though since I just work at a little fab shop in West Covina building trucks for the upcoming Baja 1000? Yeah, so I guess yall are right, body lifts are awesome, and they should run the Dakar some day, I'd bet they'd win. WAJ!!!

What I offroad and what you offroad are two different things Trent. I would never run a bodylift on a truck I run in the desert. I never said you didnt' know what you are talking about. We have had many conversations about that, just two different views on offroading.

I am just defending bodylifts. Everyone knows I abused mine and never had a problem.

And I agree on what you have done, but my opinions on body lifts still stand. I wouldn't even run them on the street, but that's just me, I like having full confidence in the safety of my vehicle.

I know a lot of you get away with some crazy stuff for having them, but everytime you beat on the truck there are new problems that arise that most of you have no idea is happening because it's not aesthetically apparent. There's a lot more to changing the geometry of a truck than people think.

I had a body lift on my old truck, an 01 edge, and after driving my new truck and comparing the two, the suspension lift just feels a lot better and you don't feel like you're tipping over around turns. Don't get me wrong, a BL is good if you're just doing some trail riding and need big tires, but if you're doing anything else, the spindle is the way to go. Plus with a BL, its hard to get your spare tire out cause the bumper is higher and the holes are misaligned.
