I will be putting a 3" BL on my 02 FX4 later this week or early next week. any big time issues or problems to look out for? any suggestions to make the install go smoother?

Mapp gas, T-55 and T-50 torx bits, breaker bar, and a socket set... possibly a Dremel/Drill in case you have to open up any holes like I did for the radiator mounts.. and you shoudl be good to go :-) Nothign really knuckle-scraping in this.. sometimes having two peopel really helps, but you can do it by yourself pretty easily..


Any problems with installing that you shoudl be aware of? Not really, it wills ay you have to bend your break lines, and extend your e-brake cable area.. but honestly, after I jacked it all up and made sure it was good, I didnt have to touch any of those.. the brake lines work just fantastic, and the e-brake is right where it was stock just fine.

Just make sure you line up your bed and body back to what looks straight.. I have to re-align my body.. as I did some awful bumpy off-roading up the trails and it moved my cab about half an inch.. doh!

 

radiator mounts? you lift your radiator with the body?

 

no....the kit come with drop brackets for the radiator

 

check your a/c line by the tensioner pulley when you get done. If it's close to the pulley, pull it back out of the way.

 

only prob i had was the lower rad hose was rubbing against a pulley,I used a coat hanger to hold it back till I got a longer hose

 

i was missing a couple brackets in my kit and the e brake like needed metal ground of the mount to fit, plus the gap between the bumper and the body and the front bumper, seemed to move it forward almost half and inch too, other than that it went well.

 

t 55 torx socket, and a big pipe wrench to hold the bushing that you have to drill out by the rad...i did the bl last weekend went pretty good, took me about 8 hours. having a buddy there and a bunch of beer helps too

The reason the front bumper moves a little bit, is because of the brackets that come in the kit......bracket bolts to where stock bolts to, then bumper bolts to that bracket......thus moving it forward. Doesn't look ugly..

I didn't bother with the ebrake cable bracket...i didn't need it....you might not either.

 

Put some loctite on the new cab bolts when you install them.

Yea...i didn't actually notice it until i really started looking at body lifted rangers. Thickness of the bracket...

Locktite just like the instructions say...and just like the factory did it.

 

i never noticed, now i will! love how it looks now.

 

how involved is the lift? Is there any steps i can bypass or do i need to go exactly by the instructions provided?

 

follow the instructions and its a pretty easy thing to do! i wouldn't bypass any steps, but theres a good instructional on therangerstation

 

i got a question where about on the body did you put the jack under? and did you guys only use 2 jacks?

 

i used only one jack, the spare tire jack! the bottle jack i bought didn't have enough height to it...i used a 4x6 piece of lumber to spread out the wieght under the cab to the outside of the frame. worked good for me
