I am well aware that summit sells a kit for nearly 150$ but I felt that even that was hard to swallow considering I have an automatic.. and all they ship you is some rubber and a small piece of tube and a bracket or two....

So I set out to find these parts separately and what do you know...they are cheap...

PUCKS: Zone offroad, friend recommended these...at 4$ for the biggest most expensive puck.....its much easier to consider.

BOLTS: Run to local hardware store for solid bolts; grade 8 isnt going to be cheap but sure wont put you anywhere near the price of a standard BL.

GAS FILL: Rubber coupling comes with hose clamps (this may nto be the proper size but you get the idea..) and its less than 5$...

BED SUPPORTS: Cut the square stock into 3" long sections, put the open ends facing up and down, weld or just crush and youre golden. and jig saw or band saw or sawza will make quick work of the square tube...and you have all youll need for less than 10 http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...&storeId=10051

now the brackets for the bumper youll have to make (cant be hard), or just go without and still retain a function bumper/tow

So all in all youve spent:
48$ on pucks
(2$ a bolt) 32$
and 5$ for nuts
5$ gas fitting
10$ for bed supports
and free labor for a day
and a lifted truck for a grand total of

100$ with honest parts and total confidence

 

so 100 for a homemade hackjob, or 150 for a kit that has warranty and merit....

How much is shipping on the zone parts? $10? Add that in there too because most of the time summit gives free shipping.

I don't see it being worth it. At least for me, I would rather have a well known lift and a warranty.

 

dont forget the ground extensions and the radiator brackets. I can understand trying to save some money but it will save you time and you will have a warrenty if you just buy the kit. Or if you want cheep wait and buy a used kit.

 

at the price of fuel, the running around you did to find this mish mash of parts, add the fuel cost, then add the nerve pills for the first time you take that bad boy offroad wondering if your frankenstein kit will hold up..

No thanks, I'll pay the extra couple bucks...and get a properly designed kit.

In the end, the couple bucks saved isn't worth my or my passengers safety or the embarrassment of being towed home .

 

Also consider that all the parts you need will be in the kit from summit... no running to different stores to buy parts.

what you have priced out is a body lift, yes... but its a half built body lift that id never trust. almost as bad as lifting with hockey pucks.

 

the summit kit has BLOCKS that are made out of reinforced nylon rated at 50,000 lbs. per square inch, not rubber.

Just stop being cheap and do it right the first time... $150 isn't that much... I paid $300 for my PA body lift here in Canada

I agree with pretty much everyone's replies. Buy the kit that comes with everything instead of wasting time/gas and not getting a headache over trying to find all the right parts. For 3" of lift for $150? Can't be that, especially since it's warrented and is backed by 10,000s of people that have them and used them.
