4x2 to 4x4 swap
 

How hard is it to swap a 4x2 ranger to 4x4. I heard you could swap the body onto a explorer frame.

No on the body swap, different wheel bases and frame widths

Not at all easy to change a Ranger 2WD into 4WD, but certainly can be done
4WD was not an "option" on Rangers that was just bolted on if someone ordered a 4x4 Ranger
Ranger 4x4 frame is different at the front, its boxed and has front axle mounts welded to it
So 4x4 Ranger starts with the frame and then body is bolted to it

You can certainly box the frame and weld on the mounts, have to measure real close to get 4 wheel alignment

Sometimes I wish Ford never did the whole Edge/Sport thing because people keep reading about how it's possible on a Ranger, but they're not seeing that it's only possible on a 2001+ Edge/Sport Ranger. And even then, NONE of the wiring is there for transfer case or the 4x4 control module, so you're stuck with a manual transfer case, and they're getting harder and harder to find as the years go on.
