Intake manifold runner control solenoid

Intake manifold runner control solenoid
Hi everyone! I'm a newb here, hoping to get some questions answered. I have a 2002 Fordzda (B2300) that has a habit of breaking parts that either don't exist at O'Reilly/Autozone/Napa or are insanely expensive when they do have them. Its latest issue is the the vacuum actuated solenoid that controls the butterfly valves inside the manifold. Over the weekend I pulled the part off it, resistance seems normal, but the CEL/ code came back within 2 miles of driving (after spraying the thing out w/ brake clean & clearing the CEL), got the part # while it was out. Local parts store wants $240 for it, Mazda dealer told me that 1S7G-9J559-AD is a Ford number (Ford wants $260 for one that says BB), cross referenced online for Mazda part #L80118741. The Mazda part number is compatible with all but the last 2 letters of what's on the part in my truck. I'm finding AB, AA, AE, BB, BC, BA, etc... NOBODY, not even the dealer, has AD. The non-AD ones range from $10-$45 ebay/Amazon. None of these other ones say they're for a 2002 ranger, some say they're for the 2.3 motor, but only Milan, MX5, Fusion, Escape... no ranger. Does anyone know what the different letters mean? Are those other models w/ the same engine any different, at least enough so that the part for them might screw up my cat or O2 sensors? If it'll work I'm happy to spend $15 on ebay for the old beater ranch truck. Thank you for any insight you guys can offer.

Is the CEL code showing P2004? If so it's almost always a simple vacuum leak. As for the 10 million part numbers for the solenoid I can't help you there but if I was gonna dump that kinda money to replace the selenoid, I'd just dump the money into just deleting the whole stupid IRC system all together. It's a notoriously useless system thats prone to failure which is why it was ditched in later year 2.3's.

1S7G = prefix (usually 4 characters that describe the specific model year and vehicle line that the part was originally designed for)
9J559 = base part number (Most often 5 characters - general part type across many vehicle lines)
AD = suffix. (could be 1, 2 or 3 characters, sometimes more. This one is a kind of catchall category with no obvious rules so it can be tougher to decipher. For something like interior parts, it could specify color, texture, etc. In some cases, it could differentiate left or right placement in the vehicle. In many instances, it is the various modifications that were made to the part throughout its design life.)
I do not know for sure but my GUESS is that the modification history is why there are the suffixes AA, AD, BB, etc.
Anyway, several sources list 1S7G-9J559-AA as a basis for the aftermarket copy of the valve for 2001~2011 2.3L Ranger. Here's one for $10 shipped that claims to be from stock in the US so, presumably, faster than waiting for the part to come directly from Asia.

Apexkeeper- Initially it was a lean code, P2004 sounds right, along with P1537. Found & fixed the vacuum leak, cleared codes, & P1537 came back immediately. I need to do something to get it running right before the end of May as it's due for smog (I'm in CA).
V8 Level II- Thank you so much! Ordering that one right now :D
