(Another) 2004 2.3 misfire thread

My ol’ ranger is giving me issues. 2004 2.3 with 5 speed manual trans, and 110,000ish miles. Driving one morning it started missing/extremely rough idle and eventually stall out. Limped it home and I could smell something burning. Notice the exhaust after headers red hot. Only code I had was “misfire cylinder 2”

What I’ve done so far (all brand new)

wires

motor craft plugs

MAF

MAP

All 4 cylinders are at 175-180 psi and I’ve tried to run it with open headers thinking my cat was plugged. Scan tool shows no active codes (deleted after sensor installs) and can’t get the CEL to come back on. All sensors show proper range however my TPS is showing 17% @ idle which I’m assuming is to high? WOT is 98%. Haven’t found any vacuum leather. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

TPS is working properly

what do your upstream o2 sensor live data look like?

it should ping back and forth between a pos number and to a neg

I’ll have to check and get back to you on that. Would unplugging the O2 sensors default back to “normal” idle?

I’m not sure

typically it’s pretty easy to know if an o2 sensor is working prop just by looking at live data on inexpensive scan tool
