Clutch

Clutch
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT, 4 cylinder 2.5 liter engine with 202,635 miles on it. It stills has the original clutch but recently it’s starting to get sticky. I was wondering how long does the clutch have left? Not only is it sticky but one morning I had a hard time disengaging the clutch. It kept getting stuck when I try to disengage it and slowly disengaging. But after Tuesday morning it hasn’t gotten stuck but it’s atill sticky. Any one know what’s going on?

It sounds like the pressure plate is wore out. Just buy a clutch kit if you are going to do it yourself. It comes with the clutch pressure plate, clutch disc and throw out bearing.
Edit, just woke up lol, didnt read right. Also look under the transmission area for leaks on the ground. Check your clutch master cylinder reservoir for the fluid dropping. Your clutch master cylinder and or slave cylinder might need replaced. That would contribute to a sticky clutch.
Whenever problems start with the clutch system you don't have long.

Yes, I would agree with Mitch, probably time for a change
If clutch doesn't disengage with pedal to the floor then there IS air in the hydraulic system, for sure.
As said check the reservoir under the hood make sure it is full and then Bleed the system, same as bleeding brake system
Because the Master sits at an angle it can get air trapped at the top, so needs to be pulled out and bled upside down
When clutch disc is "worn out" clutch will slip, meaning engine RPMs will go up but speed doesn't increase as fast, so clutch is slipping on the flywheel, its now too thin so pressure plate can't hold it tight against the flywheel
Always replace slave cylinder, throw out bearing and pilot bearing when you install new clutch disc, also get a new Self Adjusting Pressure plate, although you can reset the old one with a hydraulic jack
