sluggish acceleration

Ok, so I'm trying to figure this out. It seems that as I get a low on gas (usually below a half tank, worse as it gets closer to E) the engine performance seriously bogs down. Does this sound like a fuel pump/filter problem? Or something else? I'm running a K&N filter, I've taken care of my MAF and been cleaning it, as well as the filter, I have all new double plat sparks, the muffler needs to be replaced, its not in horrible condition since i replaced it like 2-3 years ago but i want to put a dynomax on it, new cat converter done last year...any suggestions? I really wanna figure this out before the winter hits...should I go buy a fuel pressure tester and do that? (which btw, where is the hookup for that in the engine compartment?)

Help please!!

Dave

if it only happens when the tank is low then don't let the tank get low.

sounds like filter to me but im not sure... seems like whens there enough weight in the tank the gas can flow through but as less weight less pressure change the filter anyways it right in front of the tank takes about 5 mins to a newbie and 1 for a mechanic if you don't want to do it take it to a mechanic they did mine for free... i didn't know it was that easy... plus the filter cost like 5 bucks... takes an xtra second or to to get started after you do tho :P

Replace the filter like napalm said and if problem keeps on change fuel pump. I know mine started acting like that and i filled it up one evening and the next morning the fuel pump went out in the school parking lot. Talk about a bad day.

if you do change the filter, just turn the key on and off a couple of times, with about 5 sec on each time to re pressurize the system, then you won't have the slow start and won't run starter down.

If you haven't replaced fuel filter do that first, then have the fuel pressure checked. Pressure should be 30-45 psi @ idle I do believe - leave the tester hooked up long enough to see if pressure drops off after running for a few minutes.
