DPFE Sensor
 
Hi everyone,
Yesterday the ranger threw a check engine light. It happened to be code P0401 (EGR Flow Insufficient). And at the same time i started to get some problems accelerating; the truck would jump like crazy when accelerating from a stop until it got to higher rpms. My assumption was that this problem was related to the check engine light. So after some research on the forum if found out that the DPFE sensor needed replacing. I replaced it and now the truck accelerates from a stop smooth as silk. The problem is that the check engine light is still on. Could it be the EGR valve keeping it on? Is the light suppose to turn off by itself or am I supposed to clear it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the malfunction is not detected again for 3 consecutive drive cycles after the CEL is illuminated, the PCM turns the CEL off. If it is not detected again in 40 consecutive drive cycles after the CEL goes out, the Diagnostic Trouble Code is erased from the PCM's memory.

if you do have to replace it, make sure you get the updated plastic sensor and not the old aluminum one.

with a "Live data" scanner and a vacuum pump you can check to see if its the sensor or the valve. could even be the intake passage is clogged.

mine has a similar problem, except its not near as major as yours, and the check engine light doesn't come on. It will stumble around when slowly revving it below 2k rpms, but it smooths out after running for a minute or so.

i already replaced it, and yes they gave me the plastic one, thanks for the advice, that would've sucked if i put another metal one in.

well, im assuming it was the sensor because as soon as i installed it the truck stopped jumping during low rpms.

this sensor will NOT cause any runing problems as you described. the ONLY thing it does is look at exhaust flow IE the EGR valve opening and closing.

I have the P1400 Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic Sensor circuit Low Voltage , but have no idea where its at. Any pictures?
