Ford Ranger idling issues
1996 Ford Ranger 2.3 Rough idling and sputtering. Have replaced spark plugs, coil packs, spark plug wires, fuel injectors, cam shaft, crank shaft, egr valve, egr feedback sensor, fuel pressure regulator. Still runs rough. Any other suggestions?

Hey!
It might be worth checking your idle air control valve to see if it has carbon build up or is no longer opening and closing fully. You can clean them and that sometimes fixes the issue, but in my case I needed to replace it. I also has a bad fuel pump that caused some cold start and idle issues. You can borrow a fuel pressure diagnostic tool from most auto parts stores to check this. I did buy just a run of the mill auto parts store idle air control valve and will be replacing it with one that is closer to OEM spec since that was suggested to me. |
Thanks! We rented a fuel pressure diagnostic test and a compression test kit. We FINALLY found that it was a blown head gasket. Replaced and now runs like new. Thanks for taking time to reply.
