gonna tow dads jeep
picking up a hitch saturday so im not rollin on the bumper ball, and we are puttin his towbar on sunday ... hopefully the ****er tracks straight .... over 8000' elevation gain 5+ hr drive ... will take it real easy hopefully my truck does ok

Why don't you tow it with something more capable? I'm not going to lie, that is going to be one hell of a long trip, its going to be very hard on your truck as well.
I have towed with the 2.5L, and after doing that a few times, I think its a terrible idea. Once I towed a BIG flat bed trailer that weighed probably 4k, I only had to go 15 miles down a state route though. I still hated it and felt uncomfortable. Likewise, I've also towed a small boat. I just don't feel comfortable towing with the 4 cylinders.

I wouldn't tow that jeep with the mazda. If you do it, just be really careful and keep a good distance if anyone is in front of you.
