Icon5 Help comparing 2.3 (05 and 06) engine blocks

I bought my 05 2.3 Ranger XL today with automatic. The engine block is toast, hole in it. I have a line on an 06 2.3 for a Ranger STX with manual. Are these engine blocks the same???? I can save a bunch of cash if I buy the 06 for the short block assembly. I haven't pulled the pan on the 05 yet to see how much damage happened to the bottom end.

Should be fine. Ranger engines didn't change much in this era, just things bolted to the motor like PCV systems, etc.

Help comparing

Thanks, I thought so but would hate to drive 100 miles and spend a few hundred for an engine I can't use.
