Mild cam
Mild cam
Hello, long time user of the forums here but I’ve never made an account anywhere but the FTE forums. Need some advice on a mild cam I can toss in my N/A !stock! 2.3 Lima. 1988 Ranger 5 speed xlt Sport with 3:55s.
I want it to be a tiny bit better. I’ve blocked off all my EGR and done every small thing I can to help this engine but having to go to four grand in 1-3rd gear to make 60 is not making my wallet happy. Need to see if I toss a cam in it if it’ll help.
Before yall ask yes I’ve patrolled many and many many forums please don’t tell me to go read somewhere else; thanks.

Esslinger Racing are pretty much the last word on the 2.3l Lima engines: https://esslingeracing.com/ford-2-va...-engines-parts
Car makers use the cam best suited for the market of the vehicle the engine is in
So the Ranger 2.3l Lima cam will give better lower RPM power(torque) but less Horsepower, 2.3l Mustang cam will give better horsepower but less torque
You can also get adjustable 2.3l Lima cam sprockets/gears so you can adjust cam timing to best suit YOUR preference
You need to decide what YOU want from the engine and what you are will to give up to get it, i.e. more torque/less HP, more HP/less torque
Cams are usually listed that way
