intake?
well im considering doing this cause they are down to $72 + 17 shipping on ebay .. but i have a few questions
1. anyone blown their MAF? Every other car ive ever intaked have been 4cyl hondas which dont have em, and a friend with an 04 corolla blew 3 mafs after adding an aem short ram
2. will 3.0l explorer short rams fit a 2.5l ... cause those are cheap as **** on ebay.

The OEM setup is a CAI, and will flow way more air than your 4 cylinder will ever pull! Matter of fact, the OEM airfilter is the same filter used for the 3.0L and 4.0L engines, and the larger the engine displacement, the higher the volume of air that will be pulled. If that filter will flow the air a 4.0L will pull, it's way over designed for the 4 cylinder!
The only performance improvement you will get is from WWR (Wallet Weight Reduction).

I say just remove the snorkel for a bit more flow and add a K&N. Just don't over oil it and it will work just fine. Also I don't think the MAF from a 3.0 will work. When I went looking for a MAF I found the the internal diameter is different depending on the size of the engine.

Or if you really want to do an intake for cheap go to a home improvement store, buy a 2-3 inch shower drain kit and make your own! =] http://www.therangerstation.com/tech.../airintake.htm
