Sounds like a short.

What does working for the Fire and EMS have to do with that? Or are you just bragging?

Sounds like a low blinker fluid problem. Did you check the blinker fluid?

He's probably using summer blinker fluid which freezes and shorts out in the winter.

Check your tail light bulbs and sockets. One of them has shorted.

Question 1: Any lighting mods? The EMS/Fire connection means sometimes you guys have other lights wired in and I wonder what may have happened?

Question 2: How do you emergency flashers work? It's possible the switch isn't right and is tying the two circuits together. Most emergency flasher circuits from the factory are wired to stop flashing when the brakes are pressed. A short or a bad emergency flasher switch or flasher module could give you this symptom.

You can have this symptom when a fuse blows for the 4-way flashers. Check your light-related fuses thoroughly!

It does sound like the multifunction switch is cross connecting the brake light input with the hazards switch output internally.

Seriously this time. Change your flasher bulb (not joking, real part). Its a metal can with 3-4 forks sticking out of it. Go to Wal-mart and they are like $3. They will be located right next to the fuzes. To locate it you will need to pull off the plastic lower dash plate and then the metal plate thats on the drivers side. Look around until you find it. It fixes most problems with the blinkers.

Except for the labor, it's a cheap fix. If that doesn't fix it though, it's probably a bigger problem either with the wiring in the steering column, or the flasher switch.
