Redline on my 4-banger?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at doing this to my gauges, and thought it would be cool if I added a red-line to the tach. At any rate, I was wondering if y'all knew what the redline on my engine would be. 4-cylendar 2.3 SOHC, I think. I can get up to 70-80 around 3,000 RPMs but I personally don't push it faster then that. 3,000 sounds fairly high when not on the highway.

Anyways, I'm just curious and would appreciate it if someone would satisfy my curiosity.

Josh

Starting at 5000 or 5500 rpms is where i'd paint it red.

man i hit 5-6 when getting on on-ramps. ive got to most of the time so i can get up to speed faster with these 31s. And i cruise on the highway at 70 just over 3k in forth. i dont really have to much of a usuable 5th anymore, unless its not windy or im draftin!!

The rev limiter is set at about 6100rpms.....how do I know? I've hit it once. lol I try to shift around 3k most of the time.

TireIron 02-09-2007 09:51 PM

yea, the rev limiter from the factory is 6250RPM so just before that is a pretty good place to set the redline, say 6000?

i usually push the danger ranger to the limit at 5500, and it hasnt blown yet.lol

There is no red line because there is a rev limiter. It won't let you get to dangerous rpm's hence no red line.

man.....you took the words, right out of my mouth.

Old thread, but like stated above, the 2.3 hits the rev limiter at 6250 rpm. However the power curve drops off at about 5500 rpm, that would be about the ideal place to shift. After that rpm you're not really "pulling" anymore.

I usually shift when my rear view mirror starts vibrating so much I can't see out of it anymore. One time it actually fell off the windshield. I don't think I ever hit the rev limiter. I have hit the 100mph fuel cut though.

Thanks for the posts all. I've decided not to paint on the redline after all... since it would only show up at night.

ummmm....
my truck wont even go 100mph..
even in 4th gear...
you must have the newer 2.3L dohc motor.

D94R 04-20-2007 07:14 AM

Even the new 2.3 DOHC have a cut off of 92 or so mph, my 05 Ranger could never in its dreams make it to 100mph without a tuner.
