RPMs drop slowly

Whenever I shift, specially the 1-2 shift, I have to wait like 2 seconds before I let the clutch out, so the rpms will drop so it wont jerk. (having a good bit of play in the drivetrain doesn't help at all). The higher the gear I go up, the faster the rpms drop to make a smooth shift. Also, the higher rpms I go, the faster the rpms drop as well, even if I make a 1-2 shift. Now, if I sit still, and rev it to say 2500rpms in neutral, the rpms drop pretty quickly. Is this normal? Its really annoying to have to pause for a couple seconds going into 2nd gear if I shift around 3k or below. I also still have the issue of the rpms dropping below normal idle speed while comming to a stop. Any ideas on this?

Sounds to me like the IAC Valve. Mine did that and I replaced it, then it quit. They are $57 dollars at Napa.

what was yours doing?

Mine RPM's would not go down in between shifts. They would stay about 2200 and I would have to force them down. Then it quit when I replaced it.!

do the rpms drop fast even at low rpms now that you've replaced it?

Sounds like a bad IAC valve to me. You can clean it with a strong brake parts cleaner. Pull it off and douse the inside of both holes with the aerosol.

Where is the IAC valve?
