MAF housing swap

bored at work trying to get more power out of my truck for cheap, so i looked up the MAF sensor for my truck (2.3L) and a 4.0

i noticed the 4.0 was a bit bigger in diameter but the sensors were mounted the same way.

would it be safe to swap the MAF housing off a 4.0 onto my 2.3 without causing any problems?

i realize the gains (if any) would be minimal but any little bit helps

I've heard of guys going from 3.0 to 4.0. I'm not aware of anyone going from 2.3 to 4.0.

i have swapped mafs without "breaking" anything. It either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't either swap back or get a tune made for it.

I would disconnect the battery for half an hour while you swap it. Once installed, let it idle. Wait and see if it finds idle. If it doesn't fit within its tolerances it will probably go from high idle to low idle (back and forth repeatedly) trying to get in range. if 5 minutes goes by, its probably not gonna happen.

A simple MAF swap won't give you anything. You have a 2.3. Deal with it man.

i'm not switching the sensor itself....i'm talking about the housing

4.0 has a bigger diameter housing than the 2.3
bigger hole = more air flow

Yes I know there will be more flow but it sill wont do anything for you. It is not worth the headache to gain horsepower that you won't even feel and then running into the problem of tuning for that extra horsepower that you wont feel. If you were going turbo then I can see where you would need this. Again. You have a 2.3 and horsepower won't come cheap on that engine. Deal with it.
