Icon8 ugh, i hate my truck...

well.. its been getting HORRIBLE gas mileage.

it uses a 1/4 tank just to drive a few towns away, just driving around town today for about an hour i used up the whole $20 i put in my tank.

its a 4cyl ranger not a built v8 mustang, come on.

the muffler that i just put on is turning weird colors because its getting so hot.

i know its lifted and has 32's, but thats no reason for it to run like it is.

and to top it off, it threw two codes at me.

i know 1443 is the evap system, i thought it was fixed, i bought a new purge valve, flow sensor and hoses.
the only thing i can think of is the locking gas cap, but its a stant cap that i just got a few months ago, i don't see how that would cause a problem..

the second code is 0171 (bank 1 to lean)
idk whats up with that seeing as its running super rich.

im about done with the thing, i would love to finish it and make it 4wd.

but with it sucking down gas i can't even save any of my money that i make.

well I absolutely love my truck but hate my ENGINE. Which Im pretty sure you do as well but Im throwing a P0174 and I cant f@cking figure it out for the life of me. I do have one suggestion My truck was running pretty sluggish and after I power sprayed the under body and engine one morning it was a completely different truck. I finally realized what 4.88s and 285/75 are all about. I believe in all my mudding trips that the dirt had worked its way into the brakes and now I realize that something was really wrong. I bring this up because I know you went mudding recently and I really thought that I had gotten all of the mud a debri away from vitals but I obviously did not.

Good luck and I hope you figure it out because I see alot of guys selling there trucks recently and I hope it doesn't come down to that for you especially after all that work.

im really thinking about selling it and buying a 98-04 jetta tdi..

my dad seems to think its the upstream o2 sensor, but it has to be something else with the way its running..

theres no way a lazy o2 sensor would cause it to run like that, even with an o2 sensor unplugged you should only see a 40% loss. (from what im reading)

its just dumping gas, bye bye money.

Have you ever considered regearing? Your truck probably came stock with 4.10 gears; 32's were NOT even close to your stock tire size.

If you want better mpg then you are going to have to drop down a couple sizes on your tires.

If your dad is a tech he shouldn't be paying the 50% markup on the 02 sensors. I can get parts for 10% over cost and just recently paid 33.45 tax for a Ford OEM 02 sensor.

He can be reached at 1-800-328-9552 ask for Steve.

Oh and that hood scoop is probably adding aerodynamic drag.

my truck came stock with 3.73's, im already around 3000 rpm on the highway in 5th gear.

the truck still has lots of power with the tires and gears.

i really don't think going down a tire size would effect anything, it still has tons of power as it is.

the hood scoop has been on for over a year now, i don't think thats whats causing it.

So you are saying that a larger tire size on the stock gearing wouldn't decrease the fuel milage You seem to be somewhat smarter than that.....

Check to make sure you don't have a caliper on the new axle sticking...

no, but its fine with the 4.10 gears, when/if i go with bigger tires (35's) i will get new gears.

as far as the brakes, everything is new all around, i guess i could check everything again.

I would check the brakes like Maurice said. I had the same problem as you a little while ago after I put new drums, shoes, and hardware on the back. I was getting terrible gas mileage and poor acceleration. I ended up putting a new wheel cylinder on the passenger side because it wasn't going in all the way so the shoe was in constant contact with the drum. She runs like a champ now.

I have the same problem, 20dollars=1/4tank=~4gallons=20-60miles(depending on lights and traffic). For the highway its 100-150miles.
My father's Ram 1500 gets better then I do, and its has 4 doors and AC! Unfair.
