Hi.Folks. New to the forum.I have a 2006 ranger XL with a2.3L4 2WD.Bought used in 2015 with 7k on truck from a good neighbor for short money. Runs and looks great.
Since I have had owned this it seems to have an slight engine vibration only between 1900and 2000 RPM. This happens in all gears at different speeds at the same RPM. I have been told that these engines were not matched balanced.
Still seems to run good.

I was thinking of maybe changing the harmonic balancer? Any thoughts on this would be good to here.

You didnt say how many miles are on it now,anyway,put it on top dead center before you take the pulley off for inspection. Check your timing belt while you're in there,even if you already had it replaced,
check the belt and marks at least.

2002 and up Rangers use the 2.3l Duratec(Mazda L) engines
No timing belt, it is DOHC and uses a chain.

Strobe light might be helpful if you can duplicate vibration with no engine load

Is it a manual or automatic?


The Mazda L 2.3l doesn't use a Keyed crank shaft with the balancer, its a press fit, but if it should shift the spark and injector timing would be off since tone wheel for crank sensor is part of balancer.

There are a few posts about it, I didn't read them, but seems to be a common occurance
