Engine compartment fire
Engine compartment fire
I need some help after a fire. I was able to get the fire out before ... well the truck exploded. minor damage to the AC evap coil cover which i already replaced. the other issue is before the fire the truck ran great at 225000 miles was well taken care of. after the fire the ECM harness cover melted and the wires were all exposed. I repaired the wires that were damaged that i could see after peeling back the burnt and melted parts. My issue now is the truck will start but is not drive worthy at all. rough idle sputters when i can get it started. i bounced the wire harness around and the truck dies. so i am led to believe that the engine wire harness has an issue. not sure where but i plan on testing. Does anyone know where I can find a new or used harness for a 96 2 wheel drive 5 speed manual x cab splash. I have looked on Ebay and amazon and done all kinds of searches but i do no know which one will work for sure. any help will be welcomed Thanks
Fixed!!
I hope this helps someone else. I was able to locate the issue. I pulled the fuel pump assembly and discovered the hose between the fuel pump and the metal tube that goes out of the top had a hole in it. I cut it off after taking the screw clamps snd there it was a 1 inch cut in the tube. so i was losing pressure at the fuel rail which had nothing to do with the fire. All i can think it was a defect during assembly as when i got the truck it had been sitting for 2 years with a full tank of gas . I drained the od gas and cleaned the tank out and installed a NEW fuel pump. i did replace the EGR sensor as it was close to where the fire was and ill repair the cover for the ECM and retape and re insulate everything. runs like a champ. The fourms helped me so i hope this post helps someone else.
